Dulal Baruah
Dulal Chandra Baruah (1 January 1932 - 4 October 2008) was a politician from Assam and Janata Dal (United) state unit President. He was deputy chief minister and PWD minister in Government of Assam headed by Golap Borbora in 1979. He was a Member of Assam Legislative Assembly for Jorhat and Charaibahi. Early life and education Baruah was born on 1 January 1932, the son of the late Jogendra Nath Baruah. He had a B.A from 1957. He was educated at Dhakuakhana, Cotton College, Gauhati and St Anthony’s College, Shillong. Early career Barua was appointed a secret agent of the Congress organisation for passing secret and important messages in 1942. He represented All India Student Congress, New Delhi in 1947. He entered government service in 1951 and resigned in 1960 to join post graduate classes. Political career Baruah was an independent candidate in the 1962 Assam Legislative Assembly election. 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
The Assam Legislative Assembly Election of 2016 was held in two phases, on 4 and 11 April 2016, to elect members of the 126 constituencies in Assam, a state in North-eastern India. The overall voter turnout was 84.72%, which set a new record for Assam. The turnout was an increase from the 2011 Assam Legislative Assembly election, 2011 Assembly election figure of 75%. The counting of votes and results declaration was completed on 19 May 2016. The election brought a change of power as the Indian National Congress (INC), which had formed the government under Tarun Gogoi since 2001, lost its majority to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP, lit "Indian People's Party") led by Sarbananda Sonowal. The 13th Assam Legislative Assembly election was held in two phases on 4 and 11 April 2011 to elect members from 126 constituencies in Assam, India. The result was announced on 13 May. Bharatiya Janata Party was accused of turning the anti-immigrant feeling in Assam into a communal row but still failed miserably. The Indian National Congress (INC) won the popular vote, but the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won the most seats and Prafulla Kumar Mahanta was appointed as the Chief Minister of Assam for his second term. 1985 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
The 8th Assam Legislative Assembly election was held in two phases in 1985 to elect members from 126 constituencies in Assam, India. The Nellie massacre and Khoirabari massacre were some cases of extreme violence. The unrest officially ended on 15 August 1985, following the Assam Accord, which was signed by leaders of AASU-AAGSP and the Government of India. During six years of the movement, a reported 855-860 deaths were reported.
