Johnnie Walker (DJ)
Peter Waters Dingley (30 March 1945 – 31 December 2024), known professionally as Johnnie Walker, was an English radio disc jockey and broadcaster. He began his career in 1966 on Offshore radio, pirate radio station Swinging Radio England before joining Radio Caroline. He joined BBC Radio 1 in 1969 and BBC Radio 2 in 1998. From 2009 to 2024, he presented ''Sounds of the 70s'' on Radio 2 on Sunday afternoons and ''The Radio 2 Rock Show'' on Friday nights from 2018 to 2024. On 6 October 2024, Walker announced his retirement from broadcasting after 58 years because of ill health, with his final show airing on 27 October. WHFS was the call sign for three successive Frequency modulation, FM stations in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore markets that broadcast on various frequencies for nearly 50 years. The first station in the area to broadcast in FM stereo, it was a long-time progressive rock (radio format), progressive rock station. History 1960s WHFS began broadcasting on November 12, 1961, on 102.3 FM in Bethesda, Maryland. Its call sign stood for "Washington High Fidelity Station" (and later as "Washington High Fidelity Stereo) advertising that it was the first station in the Washington metropolitan area to broadcast in FM stereo. The Bay City Rollers are a Scottish pop rock band known for their worldwide teen idol popularity, as a band in the 1970s. The British Market Research Bureau (BMRB) was a market research agency, formed in London in 1933 as a spin-off from American advertising agency J. Walter Thompson. It was notable for creating the Target Group Index, a survey that is still conducted today, and for being the compiler of the first UK official singles and albums charts in 1969. Duane Eddy (April 26, 1938 – April 30, 2024) was an American guitarist. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he had a string of hit records produced by Lee Hazlewood which were noted for their characteristically "twangy" guitar sound, including " Rebel-'Rouser", "Peter Gunn", and " Because They're Young". Robbie Robinson (21 April 1940 – 31 August 2021), better known by the name Robbie Dale and nicknamed The Admiral, was a British radio disc jockey who was the chief DJ of Radio Caroline during the 1960s. Pirate radio Dale was born in Littleborough, Lancashire, England, in April 1940. He was chief DJ on the offshore pirate radio ship Radio Caroline. Dale was one of the DJs on Radio Caroline on 14 August 1967 with Johnnie Walker, when the Marine Broadcasting Offences Act 1967 came into effect. At its peak, the station had 23 million listeners.
