John Martin Taylor
John Martin Taylor, also known as Hoppin' John, is an American food writer and culinary historian, known for his writing on the cooking of the American South, and, in particular, the foods of the lowcountry, the coastal plain of South Carolina and Georgia. He has played a role in reintroducing many traditional southern dishes, and has advocated the return to stone-ground, whole-grain, heirloom grits and cornmeal production. Early years Taylor was born in Louisiana, moving to the South Carolina Lowcountry when he was 3. The son of scientists, he spent much of his youth aboard the family's boats. His mother was an adventurous cook and cookbook collector and his father was a wine lover. He received a B.A. in journalism from the University of Georgia (UGA) in 1971. In 1977 he earned a Master of Arts in Film, also from UGA. From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, Taylor lived in the Caribbean, Paris, and Genoa. Johnnie Taylor
Johnnie Harrison Taylor (May 5, 1934 – May 31, 2000) was an American recording artist and songwriter who performed a wide variety of genres, from blues, rhythm and blues, soul, and gospel to pop, doo-wop, and disco. He was initially successful at Stax Records with the number-one R&B hits " Who's Making Love" (1968), " Jody's Got Your Girl and Gone" (1971) and " I Believe in You (You Believe in Me)" (1973), and reached number one on the US pop charts with " Disco Lady" in 1976. "The Boy from New York City" is a song originally recorded by the American soul group The Ad Libs, released in 1964 as their first single. Produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the song peaked at No. 8 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 on the chart week of February 27, 1965. Though the group continued to record other singles, they never repeated the chart success of "The Boy from New York City". According to Artie Butler, the track was recorded at A&R Studios in New York, in three separate sessions. The first session was to lay down the rhythm section, then the next session was for the lead and backup vocals, with the last session was just for the horns. John Taylor is a Scottish fiddler and composer from Buckie in Scotland and a past winner of the Niel Gow award for Scottish fiddling. He lives in California and leads the band Hamewith. He was part of the former band Emerald that was based in Northern California in the 1980s and 1990s. He appears as a musician in the wedding scene from the movie ''So I Married an Axe Murderer''. John Taylor (25 September 1942 – 17 July 2015) was a British jazz pianist, born in Manchester, England, who occasionally performed on the organ and the synthesizer. In his obituary, The Guardian described him as "one of the great jazz pianists and composers of his generation" and at a musical level comparable to Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner and Brad Meldhau. John Taylor (1840–1891) was an English songwriter and poet (whose material won many prizes) and an accomplished artist and engraver. Early life John Taylor was born in 1840 in Dunston, Gateshead, (which at the time was in County Durham but is now in Tyne and Wear). John Taylor began adult life as a clerk at the Newcastle Central Station. After several years he became impatient at not gaining, in his mind, sufficient promotion, and left to "better himself" as a traveller for a brewery. Like many other short cuts this, in time, he found had its drawbacks, and possibly the slower progress of the railway might in the end have been better. John Taylor (bass Guitarist)
Nigel John Taylor (born 20 June 1960) is a British musician who is best known as the bass guitarist for new wave band Duran Duran, of which he was a founding member. Duran Duran was one of the most popular bands in the world during the 1980s due in part to their music videos which played in heavy rotation in the early days of MTV. Taylor played with Duran Duran from its founding in 1978 until 1997, when he left to pursue a solo recording and film career. He recorded a dozen solo releases (albums, EPs, and video projects) through his private record label B5 Records over the next four years, had a lead role in the movie '' Sugar Town'', and made appearances in a half dozen other film projects.
