John O'Brien (Australian Politician)
John O'Brien (6 July 1866 – 8 October 1932) was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life O'Brien was born in Harlaxton, a suburb of Toowoomba, Queensland. The son of Patrick O'Brien and his wife Mary (née O'Neil), he took over the family farm in 1887 after the death of his father. He then became involved in road construction and was responsible for many public works in the Toowoomba area. O'Brien married Margaret Mary Fahy in 1899 and together they had four children. Politics O'Brien was a member of the Highfields Divisional Board from 1896 to 1898. He then won the Labour Party endorsement for the seat of Aubigny, which he duly won in 1904. O'Brien served one term and did not stand for re-election in 1907. Later life Losing his farm after politics, he took up work as a yardman at a Hotel in Brisbane. Electoral District Of Aubigny
The electoral district of Aubigny was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland. It was first created in a redistribution ahead of the 1873 colonial election, and existed until the 1972 state election. Based in the Darling Downs to the north and west of the regional city of Toowoomba, Aubigny was a safe seat for the Country Party, being held by every one of its incarnations from 1915 until 1960, when it was won by the Queensland Labor Party MP Les Diplock, transferring from Condamine. Diplock held the seat as the sole parliamentary representative of the QLP (which merged with the national Democratic Labor Party in 1962) until the seat's abolition in 1972. Its most notable member was Arthur Edward Moore, member from 1915 until 1941 and Premier of Queensland from 1929 to 1932. Toowoomba Region
The Toowoomba Region is a local government area located in the Darling Downs part of Queensland, Australia. Established in 2008, it was preceded by several previous local government areas with histories extending back to the early 1900s and beyond. In 2018-2019, it had a A$491 million budget, of which A$316 million is for service delivery and A$175.13 million capital (infrastructure) budget. William Thorn (3 September 1852 – 1 February 1935) was a grazier and politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life William Thorn was born in September 1852 in Ipswich, Queensland, the son of George Thorn and his wife Jane, née Hancock. Politics William Thorn was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly in the electoral district of Aubigny from 1894 to 1904 and again from 1908 to 1912.
