John Davis (cricketer, Born 1939)
Francis John Davis (born 26 March 1939) is a former Welsh cricketer. Davis was a right-handed batsman who bowled slow left-arm orthodox. He was born in Cardiff, Glamorgan. Davis was educated at Blundell's School in Devon. He made his first-class debut for Glamorgan against the touring Indians in 1959. Later studying at St John's College, Oxford, it was for Oxford University that he made his next first-class appearance for in 1963, against Gloucestershire. He made 13 further first-class appearances for the university, the last of which came against Cambridge University in that same season. In his 14 first-class matches for the university, he scored 363 runs at an average of 21.35, with his only innings of note, a score of 63, came against Northamptonshire. Predominantly a bowler, Davis took 34 wickets for the university, at a bowling average of 30.00, with best figures of 5/67. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, established in 1820, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. The club was recognised as holding first-class cricket, first-class status until 2020. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The club has three men's teams (Blues, Crusaders and the Colleges XI) and one women's team (from the incorporation of Cambridge University Women's Cricket Club (CUWCC) in 2000) which altogether play nearly 100 days of cricket each season. Mushtaq Mohammad
Mushtaq Mohammad PP (Urdu: مشتاق محمد; born 22 November 1943) is a Pakistani cricket coach and former cricketer who played in 57 Tests and 10 ODIs from 1959 to 1979. A right-handed batsman and a leg-spinner, he is one of the most successful Pakistani all-rounders and went on to captain his country in nineteen Test matches. He was the first and to date only Pakistani to score a century and take five wickets in an innings in the same test match twice. He was the Coach of the squad which finished as runners-up at the 1999 Cricket World Cup. Mushtaq was one of the five Mohammad brothers, four of whom ( Wazir, Sadiq, Hanif and Mushtaq himself) played Test cricket for Pakistan, as did Hanif's son Shoaib. Essex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Essex. Not Out
In cricket, a batsman is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batsman is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with, so the innings ends. Usually, two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Five Wicket Haul
In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five–for" or "fifer") occurs when a bowler takes five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded by critics as a notable achievement, equivalent to a century from a batter. Taking a five-wicket haul at Lord's earns the bowler a place on the Lord's honours boards. Bowling Average
In cricket, a player's bowling average is the number of runs they have conceded per wicket taken. The lower the bowling average is, the better the bowler is performing. It is one of a number of statistics used to compare bowlers, commonly used alongside the economy rate and the strike rate to judge the overall performance of a bowler. When a bowler has taken only a small number of wickets, their bowling average can be artificially high or low, and unstable, with further wickets taken or runs conceded resulting in large changes to their bowling average. Due to this, qualification restrictions are generally applied when determining which players have the best bowling averages.
