John Cabot ( ; 1450 – 1499) was an Italians, Italian navigator and exploration, explorer. His 1497 voyage to the coast of North America under the commission of Henry VII of England, Henry VII, King of England is the earliest known European exploration of coastal North America since the Norse visits to Vinland in the eleventh century. To mark the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Cabot's expedition, both the Canadian and British governments declared Cape Bonavista, Newfoundland (island), Newfoundland as representing Cabot's first landing site. However, alternative locations have also been proposed. ''Rosa'' 'John Cabot' is a dark pink Hybrid Kordesii, shrub rose, bred by Canadian rose breeder, Felicitas Svejda in 1969. It was introduced in Canada in 1978 by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. It was the first of the Canadian Explorer roses that Svejda developed and named in honour of legendary Canadian explorers. Description 'John Cabot' is a tall, bushy hybrid Kordesii shrub rose, in height, with a spread. It has a double (17–25) cupped, bloom form of medium-sized petals. Flower color ranges from dark pink to reddish-purple, sometimes with streaks of white, and the colour fades as blooms age. Flowers are borne in clusters of 3–10. 'John Cabot' flowers abundantly in the first seven weeks of the season, then occasionally until the autumn, when it has a final, big flowering. Wendy Mass (born April 22, 1967) is an American author of young adult novels and children's books. Her 2003 novel, '' A Mango-Shaped Space'' won the American Library Association (ALA) Schneider Family Book Award for Middle School in 2004. George Parker Winship (July 29, 1871 – June 22, 1952) was an American librarian, author, teacher, and bibliographer born in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard in 1893. Early life and career Went from the Somerville Latin School to Harvard College, where he received an A.B ''cum laude'' in 1893 and an A.M. in 1894. He was librarian of a private collection of Americana formed by John Carter Brown at Providence, Rhode Island, from 1895 to 1915. Winship's interest in contemporary fine printing was to some extent connected with the Club of Odd Volumes in Boston, of which he became a non-resident member in 1898. Winship was also elected a member of the American Antiquarian Society in 1899. In 1915 Winship became librarian of the Harry Elkins Widener collection, which had just opened. 2011 Penn State Nittany Lions Football Team
The 2011 Penn State Nittany Lions football team represented the Pennsylvania State University in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was coached by Joe Paterno for the first nine games until he was fired in the wake of the Penn State sex abuse scandal, with defensive coordinator Tom Bradley taking over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The team played its home games in Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania, US. They were members of the Big Ten Conference in the newly formed Leaders Division. They finished the season 9–4, 6–2 in the Leaders Division to be co–division champions with Wisconsin. Due to their head-to-head loss to Wisconsin, they did not represent the division in the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game. They were invited to the TicketCity Bowl where they lost to Houston 14–30.
