John Byrne (comics)
John Lindley Byrne (; born July 6, 1950) is a British-born American comic book writer and artist of superhero comics. Since the mid-1970s, Byrne has worked on many major superheroes; with noted work on Marvel Comics's ''X-Men'' and ''Fantastic Four (comic book), Fantastic Four''. Byrne also facilitated the 1986 relaunch of DC Comics's ''Superman'' franchise with the Limited series (comics), limited series The Man of Steel (comics), ''The Man of Steel'', the first issue of which featured the comics' first variant cover. Coming into the comics profession as a penciller, inker, letterer, and writer on his earliest work, Byrne began co-plotting the ''X-Men'' comics during his tenure on them, for story arcs including "Dark Phoenix Saga" and "Days of Future Past", and co-creating characters such as Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, Sabretooth (character), Sabretooth, Shadow King, and Rachel Summers. New York Comic Con
The New York Comic Con is an annual New York City fan convention dedicated to comics, Western comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, cosplay, toys, Film, movies, and television. It was first held in 2006. With an attendance of 200,000 in 2022, it is North America's most attended fan convention. Penciller
A penciller (or penciler) is an artist who works on the creation of comic books, graphic novels, and similar visual art forms, with a focus on the initial pencil illustrations. In the American comic book industry, the penciller is the first step in rendering the story in visual form, and may require several steps of feedback with the writer. These artists are concerned with layout (positions and vantages on scenes) to showcase steps in the plot. Tools and materials A penciller works in pencil. Beyond this basic description, however, different artists choose to use a wide variety of different tools. The Great Lakes Avengers (also known as The Lightning Rods, The Great Lakes X-Men, The Great Lakes Champions, and The Great Lakes Initiative) are a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The characters were introduced in ''West Coast Avengers'' #46 (July 1989), and were created by John Byrne. Publication history The team first appeared in ''West Coast Avengers'' vol. 2 #46 and then made appearances in issues #48–49 and #64, and a cameo appearance in ''Avengers West Coast Annual'' #6. Alpha Flight
Alpha Flight is a fictional team of Canadian superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The characters premiered in ''The Uncanny X-Men'' #120 (April 1979), and were created to serve as part of the X-Men member Wolverine's backstory. Marvel published an '' Alpha Flight'' comic book series from 1983 to 1994. The team serves as Marvel's premier Canadian superhero team akin to America's Avengers. Thing (comics)
The Thing (Benjamin Jacob "Ben" Grimm) is a fictional superhero character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is a founding member of the Fantastic Four. The Thing was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, and he first appeared in ''Fantastic Four (comic book), The Fantastic Four'' #1 (cover-dated Nov. 1961). Known for his trademark rocky appearance, he has superhuman strength, a sense of humor, and the battle cry and catchphrase "It's clobberin' time!" Thing's speech patterns are loosely based on Jimmy Durante. Shadow King
The Shadow King (Amahl Farouk) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, primarily as an enemy of the X-Men. His nemesis is the X-Men's leader, Professor X, while he also figures into the backstory of the X-Man Storm (Marvel Comics), Storm. As originally introduced, Farouk was a mutant (Marvel Comics), human mutant from Egypt who used his vast telepathy, telepathic abilities for evil, taking the alias Shadow King.
