Jodorowsky's Dune
''Jodorowsky's Dune'' is a 2013 American-French documentary film directed by Frank Pavich. The film explores cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky's unsuccessful attempt to adapt and film Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction novel ''Dune'' in the mid-1970s. Background In 1971, the production company Apjac International (APJ) headed by film producer Arthur P. Jacobs optioned the rights to film ''Dune''. However, Jacobs died in 1973 before a film could be developed. In December 1974, a French consortium led by Jean-Paul Gibon purchased the film rights from APJ, with director Alejandro Jodorowsky set to direct. Frank Pavich
Frank Pavich ( ) is a Croatian-American film director and producer. Career Pavich's first film as director was '' N.Y.H.C.'', a feature-length documentary about the New York hardcore music scene. The film was shot in the summer of 1995 and was released on VHS in 1999. In 2008, Halo 8 Entertainment released it as part of a special edition two-DVD set. In 2003, Pavich co-produced the satirical comedy film ''Die, Mommie, Die!''. From 2011 to 2013, Pavich directed his second documentary, '' Jodorowsky's Dune''. The film premiered in the Director's Fortnight section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, and went on to play at many other festivals, including the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. Magma (band)
Magma is a French progressive rock band founded in Paris in 1969 by self-taught drummer Christian Vander, who claimed as his inspiration a "vision of humanity's spiritual and ecological future" that profoundly disturbed him. The style of progressive rock that Vander developed with Magma is termed " Zeuhl", and has been applied to other bands in France operating in the same period, and to some recent Japanese bands. Vander created a fictional language, Kobaïan, in which most lyrics are sung. Gong (band)
Gong are a psychedelic rock band that incorporates elements of jazz and space rock into their musical style. The group was formed in Paris in 1967 by Australian musician Daevid Allen and English vocalist Gilli Smyth. Band members have included Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Steve Hillage, Mike Howlett, Tim Blake, Pierre Moerlen, Bill Laswell and Theo Travis. Tangerine Dream
Tangerine Dream is a German electronic music band founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The group has seen many personnel changes over the years, with Froese the only constant member until his death in January 2015. The best-known lineup of the group was its mid-1970s trio of Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. In 1979, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann until his own departure in 1985. This lineup was notable for composing many movie soundtracks. Since Froese's death in 2015, the group has been under the leadership of Thorsten Quaeschning. Quaeschning is Froese's chosen successor and is currently the longest-serving band member, having joined in 2005. Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog) is a broad genre of rock music that primarily developed in the United Kingdom through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early-to-mid-1970s.
