Jenny Downham
Jenny Downham (born 1964) is a British novelist and an ex-actress who has published four books. Career Her debut novel, '' Before I Die'', is the fictional account of the last few months of a sixteen-year-old girl who has been dying of leukaemia for four years. The book won the 2008 Branford Boase Award. It was short listed for the 2008 Guardian Children's Fiction Prize and the 2008 Lancashire Children's Book of the Year and nominated for the 2008 Carnegie Medal and the 2008 Booktrust Teenage Prize. In 2012 it was adapted into a film called ''Now Is Good'' and starred Dakota Fanning. Downham's second novel, '' You Against Me'', was published in December 2010. The book is a novel about family, loyalty, and the choices which we have to make. Before I Die
''Before I Die'' is a young adult novel written by Jenny Downham, first published by David Fickling Books in 2007. The novel follows Tessa's shortly-ending life from her perspective. Plot Tessa is diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Despite four years of chemotherapy, she has discovered that her cancer is terminal, and her doctors give her a short time to live. Tessa, with the help of her best friend, Zoey, comes up with a list of things she wants to do before she dies, including some risky behaviours that she deems necessary to have "lived." Zoey is excited and supportive of the outrageous bucket list until an unplanned pregnancy test comes up positive. Tessa's parents are divorced and have very different views on her desire to experience the dangerous side of life before she passes. Costa Book Awards
The Costa Book Awards were a set of annual literary awards recognising English-language books by writers based in United Kingdom, UK and Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Originally named the Whitbread Book Awards from 1971 to 2005 after its first sponsor, the Whitbread company, then a brewery and owner of pub-restaurant chains, it was renamed when Costa Coffee, then a subsidiary of Whitbread, took over sponsorship. The companion Costa Short Story Award was established in 2012. Costa Coffee was purchased by the Coca-Cola Company in 2018. The awards were discontinued in 2022. The awards were given both for high literary merit and for works that were enjoyable reading, and their aim was to convey the enjoyment of reading to the widest possible audience. Leukemia ( also spelled leukaemia; pronounced ) is a group of blood cancers that usually begin in the bone marrow and produce high numbers of abnormal blood cells. These blood cells are not fully developed and are called ''blasts'' or '' leukemia cells''. Symptoms may include bleeding and bruising, bone pain, fatigue, fever, and an increased risk of infections.
