Jenny (1936 Film)
''Jenny'' is a 1936 French drama film, the first full-length feature by Marcel Carné and the first of his successful collaborations with the dialogue writer Jacques Prévert and the composer Joseph Kosma. The screenplay is based on the novel ''La Prison de Velours'' by Louis Ribaud (1934). The leading roles are taken by Françoise Rosay, Albert Préjean, Charles Vanel, and Lisette Lanvin.Andrews p.355 It tells the story of a middle-aged woman in Paris who with underworld support has built up a smart night club, but her life starts falling apart when the young gangster she maintains as her lover falls in love with her daughter. At times the film moves into the realm of poetic realism, where the cinematography, music and dialogue infuse the lives and surroundings of ordinary people with poetry. Marcel Carné
Marcel Albert Carné (; 18 August 1906 – 31 October 1996) was a French film director. A key figure in the poetic realism movement, Carné's best known films include ''Port of Shadows'' (1938), ''Le Jour Se Lève'' (1939), ''Les Visiteurs du Soir'' (1942) and ''Children of Paradise'' (1945); the latter has been cited as one of the List of films considered the best, great films of all time. Roland Toutain
Roland Toutain (October 18, 1905 - October 16, 1977) was a French actor, songwriter and stuntman. He appeared in 55 films between 1924 and 1957, both in leading and supporting roles. Life and career Toutain is known for playing the aviator André Jurieux in Jean Renoir's film ''The Rules of the Game'' (La Règle du jeu). The role suited him: Toutain was also an avid hobby aviator, as well as an acrobat. He first gained fame as an actor in the adventure film ' and its sequel '. Toutain also appeared in Fritz Lang's ''Liliom'' (1934). His film career slowed down in the late 1940s and he made his final movie in 1956. Art director is a title for a variety of similar job functions in theater, advertising, marketing, publishing, fashion, live-action and animated film and television, the Internet, and video games. Margo Lion (cabaret Singer)
Marguerite Hélène Barbe Elisabeth Constantine Lion (28 February 1899 – 24 February 1989), known as Margo Lion, was a European singer and actress. Lion was born in Constantinople to a Jewish family during Ottoman rule. She moved to Berlin after World War I with her father to join the school of Russian ballet. She was a successful chanteuse, parodist, cabaret singer, and actress, best known for her role as Pirate Jenny in director G. W. Pabst's 1931 French-language adaptation of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's '' Threepenny Opera'' (''Die Dreigroschenoper''). In 1928, Lion and Dietrich sang a famous duet, "Wenn die beste Freundin mit der besten Freundin", a song which allegedly had lesbian overtones and which became a hit in Weimar Berlin prior to Dietrich's departure for Hollywood.
