Jaws (film)
''Jaws'' is a 1975 American thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg. Based on Jaws (novel), the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley, it stars Roy Scheider as police chief Martin Brody, who, with the help of a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (Robert Shaw (actor), Robert Shaw), hunts a man-eating great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town. Murray Hamilton plays the mayor, and Lorraine Gary portrays Brody's wife. The screenplay is credited to Benchley, who wrote the first drafts, and actor-writer Carl Gottlieb, who rewrote the script during principal photography. Roger Kastel (June 11, 1931 – November 8, 2023) was an American artist, known for creating the posters for the films ''Jaws (film), Jaws'' (1975) and ''The Empire Strikes Back'' (1980). Personal life Roger Kastel was born in White Plains, New York on June 11, 1931. He later lived in Milford, Massachusetts, occasionally commuting to Manhattan to attend classes at the Art Students League of New York. Kastel resided in Clove Valley in Dutchess County, New York for 47 years, where in a 200-year old barn which he had converted into a studio, created both the ''Jaws'' and ''Empire Strikes Back'' illustrations. ''Jaws'' is an American media franchise series that started with the Jaws (film), 1975 film of the same name that expanded into three sequels, a theme park ride, and other tie-in merchandise, based on a 1974 novel ''Jaws (film), Jaws''. The main subject of the saga is a great white shark and its attacks on people in specific areas of the United States and The Bahamas. The Brody family is featured in all of the films as the primary antithesis to the shark. The 1975 film was based on the novel written by Peter Benchley, which itself was inspired by the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. High concept is a type of artistic work that can be easily pitched with a succinctly stated premise. It can be contrasted with low concept, which is more concerned with character development and other subtleties that are not as easily summarized. The origin of the term is disputed.
