Jan Berger (born 18 August 1976 in Prague, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech retired footballer who played as a midfielder. He last played for East Bengal FC in the I-League. Club career As a youth, Jan Berger played for Sparta Prague but when his father, Jan Berger Senior, signed for FC Zürich, his family moved to Switzerland and he continued his youth career with FC St. Gallen. He then moved to the youth department by Grasshopper Club Zürich, later he started his professional career with them in 1994. With Grasshopper Club Zürich, he played 2 UEFA Champions League matches in 1996 and scored 1 goal against Rangers FC. Berger joined FC Basel's first team for their 1997–98 season under head coach Jörg Berger. He played his domestic league debut for his new club in the home game in the St. Jakob Stadium on 8 November 1997 as Basel won 4–1 against Kriens. SC Kriens
SC Kriens is a football club based in Kriens, Switzerland, that currently competing in the Promotion League, the third tier of Swiss football. The club uses Stadion Kleinfeld as home ground, and form a local rivalry with FC Luzern. SC Kriens women's team has been participating in the Nationalliga A since 2008. Jörg Berger
Jörg Berger (13 October 1944 – 23 June 2010) was a German football manager and player, who last managed Arminia Bielefeld. Career As an active he played for 1.FC Lok Leipzig. Coaching career In 1970, Berger was forced to retire due to a muscle injury and started his managing career after the studying at the DHfK Leipzig. Berger was a reputable manager in East Germany who was planned to manage the national team as successor of longtime manager Georg Buschner some day. Berger managed the youth team of the GDR. In 1979, he used a match in Yugoslavia to flee to West Germany. He signed with Second Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98. As a GDR refugee he suffered many threats by the East German secret police Stasi. He survived being poisoned whilst managing KSV Hessen Kassel in the mid-1980s. Jan Berger (born 27 November 1955) is a Czech football manager and former player who most recently managed Slavoj Vyšehrad. A midfielder, Berger played in Czechoslovakia for Dukla Prague and Sparta Prague, winning three league titles in total. He also played internationally, winning gold with Czechoslovakia in the 1980 Olympic football competition and bronze in the UEFA European Championship held in the same year. Club career Berger was born in Prague. In Czechoslovakia, Berger played for Dukla Prague, winning the league title in 1979 and scoring a total of six goals between 1978 and 1980. Pivoda, p. 61.
