James Lorimer (Australian Politician)
Sir James Lorimer (30 March 1831 – 6 September 1889) was an Australian politician and businessman. He was the first chairman of the Melbourne Harbor Trust and a Member of the Legislative Council in the Victorian parliament from 1879 to 1889. Personal life Lorimer was born on 30 March 1831 in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, to merchant Thomas Lorimer and Catherine, née Walkin. He was educated at Haddon Hall Academy, and articled to a Liverpool softgoods firm which traded with Africa and America. He travelled to Victoria in 1853 on health advice and chose to stay. He married Eliza Kenworthy, the daughter of the United States consul in Sydney, on 4 March 1858, with whom he raised eleven children, ten of whom survived him. In 1869 he commissioned architect Leonard Terry to design a large Toorak mansion which he named 'Greenwich House'. James Lorimer (South African Politician)
James Lorimer (born 19 February 1962) is a South African politician, a Member of Parliament for the Democratic Alliance, and the Shadow Minister of Environmental Affairs, Forestry and Fisheries. Previously he has served as a deputy spokesperson on Parliament's defence and basic education committees, and as Shadow Minister on Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs as well as Mineral Affairs. He was first elected to the National Assembly in 2009. Education Lorimer was born in Johannesburg in 1962 and educated at St Stithians College and University of Witwatersrand. In 1981, while still at university, Lorimer began work as a freelance journalist on South Africa's first independent radio station, Capital Radio. James Lorimer (advocate)
James Lorimer of Kellyfield, FRSE LLD (4 November 1818 – 13 February 1890) was a Scottish advocate and professor of public law. He was an authority on international law. He has been credited with coining the concept of international organization. Life Lorimer was born in Aberdalgie House in Perthshire. He was the son of James Lorimer, manager of the Earl of Kinnoull's estates. He was educated at the High School in Perth then studied law at Edinburgh University, doing further postgraduate studies in Berlin, Bonn and Geneva, broadening his understanding of European Law. He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1845. He purchased an impressive Georgian townhouse at 22 Queen Street, with James Jardine as a close neighbour. In 1861, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh his proposer being Leonard Schmitz. James Gibson Lorimer
James Gibson "Jim" Lorimer (June 3, 1923 – October 25, 2012) was a lawyer and politician in British Columbia. He served in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1969 to 1975 and from 1979 to 1983 as a member of the New Democratic Party. Lorimer was born in Victoria, British Columbia and served overseas with The Canadian Scottish Regiment during World War II. After the war, Lorimer worked as a longshoreman, fisherman, and shipyard worker while studying law at the University of British Columbia. He practised in Grand Forks and Vancouver. Lorimer was an unsuccessful candidate in the riding of Vancouver Quadra in the 1957 federal election. He served on the municipal council of Burnaby from 1966 to 1968.
