Jakub Smrž
Jakub 'Kuba' Smrž (born 7 April 1983 in České Budějovice, Czechoslovakia) is a professional motorcycle road racer. He currently competes in the Superbike World Championship, aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1. For 2017 and 2018 he rode a BMW S1000RR in the British Superbike Championship, but in June 2018 he suffered a serious shoulder injury when guest-riding for Czech BMW team Mercury Racing in the Oschersleben eight-hour event in Germany. Luke Hedger rode Smrž' machine in his absence. For 2015 Smrž was contracted to ride a Ducati Panigale in the British Superbike Championship for Moto Rapido Racing, but after a crash and injury in the fourth round at Snetterton, was replaced mid-season by John Hopkins. Shaun Muir Racing (or SMR) is an international race team based in Guisborough, Redcar and Cleveland, Cleveland in the north-east of England. The team is owned by Shaun Muir, a former international superbike racer. In 2019, they became the BMW Motorrad, BMW works team using BMW S1000RR#2019, BMW S1000RR machines, culminating in winning the 2024 Superbike World Championship with rider Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and BMW S1000RR#M1000RR 2021, M1000 RR machines. Paddock Grand Prix was a Grand Prix motorcycle racing team from Switzerland who competed in the F.I.M. Road Racing World Championship since until , before being acquired by team Technomag. In , Paddock's rider Thomas Lüthi won the 125cc title. History The team began racing as Elit Grand Prix in the season with Czech rider Jakub Smrž on a Honda RS125R. At the 2005 French Grand Prix the Paddock team achieved its first victory thanks to Thomas Lüthi who won the 125cc race. At the end of the season he secured the world championship title in the 125cc class. In a motorsports race, the pole position is usually the best and "statistically the most advantageous" starting position on the track. The pole position is usually earned by the driver with the best qualifying times in the trials before the race, although penalties may award it to the second fastest driver, as the pole position is statistically awarded to the driver starting in first position. The number-one qualifying driver is also referred to as the pole-sitter. The pole position starts the race "at the front of the starting grid.
