Jacobson is an unincorporated community in Ball Bluff Township, Aitkin County, Minnesota Minnesota ( ) is a U.S. state, state in the Upper Midwestern region of the United States. It is bordered by the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario to the north and east and by the U.S. states of Wisconsin to the east, Iowa to the so ..., United States. Formerly a logging town known as "Mississippi Landing", it is named after Paul Jacobson, who served as the first postmaster. Minnesota State Highways 65 and 200 are two of the main routes in the community. Community Jacobson consists of a gas station, Mississippi Landing; a campground right off the banks of the river; three churches of different denominations; and a bar, The Forestry Station. Jacobson's was an American regional upscale department store chain. Based in Jackson, Michigan, the chain operated primarily in Michigan and Florida, but also had stores in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Kansas. Jacobson's focused on apparel, fine jewelry and home furnishings. The chain entered bankruptcy in early 2002 after 164 years of service. One store in Winter Park, Florida was re-established as Jacobson's in 2004, but closed in 2011. History The first Jacobson's store was opened by Abram Jacobson in Reed City, Michigan, in 1838. It eventually expanded to Ann Arbor, Battle Creek and Jackson, Michigan, as well, moving its headquarters to Jackson in 1937. Two years later, brothers Zola and Nathan Rosenfeld purchased the company and began expanding it throughout the state. Buegeleisen and Jacobson (B & J) was a musical instrument distributor in New York City, United States. B & J opened for business in 1901, on 17th Street in Manhattan, run by the previously salesmen Samuel Buegeleisen (1871–1957) and David Jacobson (1869–1904). In 1913, they moved to University Place. They grew through the 1930s and 1940s, adapting their catalog as public tastes and demand changed. The company was closed in the early 1970s.
