Maithili cinema is the film industry of the Maithili language mainly active in the Mithila (region), Mithila region of Bihar and Nepal. It is a small scale film industry based in the Mithila region. In recent years the Maithili film industry is gradually increasing its horizon. Apart from the native land, Maithili movies are being shot in countries like United States, USA and Canada. The movies are being recognised by the National Film Award panel. In 2016, the Maithili movie "Mithila Makhaan" won National Film Awards, national film award in the category of "Best Maithili Films". Maithili Language
Maithili ( , ) is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in parts of India and Nepal. It is native to the Mithila region, which encompasses parts of the eastern Indian states of Bihar and Jharkhand as well as Nepal's Koshi Province, Koshi and Madhesh Provinces. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India. It is the second most commonly spoken native languages of Nepal, Nepalese language constitutionally registered as one of the fourteen provincial official languages of Nepal. It is spoken by 21.7 million people. Of those, 3.2 million are Nepalis, Nepalese speakers. Nitu Chandra (born Neetu Chandra Srivastava on June 20, 1984) is an Indian actress, model, film producer and theatre artist. She has worked in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu films. She is also a classical dancer and a sportsperson, involved in the promotion of basketball in the country through her close association with the NBA and Taekwondo, being a fourth Dan black-belt. Durgesh Kumar is an Indian actor from Bihar. He has had roles in Hindi cinema and web series. Early life and education Kumar pursued engineering upon arriving in Delhi in 2001.
