Island (HÖH And Current 93 Album)
''Island'' is a studio album by HÖH and Current 93, released in November 1991 through Durtro. It differs from much of Current 93's output due to its prominent use of synthesizers and ambient music. Some of the compositions also appear on HÖH's soundtrack for the film ''Children of Nature''. The CD release of ''Island'' includes humorous bonus tracks. Background In the late 1980s, David Tibet of the British band Current 93 considered moving permanently to Iceland. He knew Icelanders such as Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson, leader of the Icelandic neopagan organisation Ásatrúarfélagið, and the composer HÖH, full name Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, who also was active in Ásatrúarfélagið and eventually became its leader in 2003. Although Tibet never moved to the country, he made a number of visits, released an album with Sveinbjörn's ''rímur'' singing titled ''Edda'' and collaborated with HÖH over several years. Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson
Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson (; born 23 April 1958), also known as HÖH, is a musician, an art director, and '' allsherjargoði'' (''chief goði'') of Ásatrúarfélagið ("the Ásatrú Association"). Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson was a pioneer in the use of computers when composing music and cleared the path for new ideas in recording and arrangements. He has worked on ambitious, experimental and original projects with various musicians, such as Psychic TV, Current 93, Sigur Rós, Steindór Andersen and Eivør Pálsdóttir. From early bands to the birth of Þeyr From 1972 to 1975 he was playing drums in a school band called Fatima with guitarist Jóhannes Helgason, bassist Birgir Ottóson and singer Guðmundur Eyjólfsson. Crowleymass
Crowleymass is an EP released in 1987 by the English group Current 93, led by David Tibet. Crowleymass originally appeared on a 12” vinyl record through Maldoror and was later reissued in 1997 on CD format through Durtro, the record company owned by David Tibet. This reissue contained a bonus track titled “I Arise”. With four songs, this record was produced by Icelandic renowned musician Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson and had the collaboration of guitar player Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson; former Strawberry Switchblade backing vocalist Rose McDowall, J. Sen and Nyarlathotep's Idiot Flute Players. Einar Örn Benediktsson
Einar Örn Benediktsson (born 29 October 1962), often billed as Einar Örn, is an Icelandic popular music singer and trumpet player. He was a member of the Sugarcubes. He served as a member of the Reykjavík City Council between 2010 and 2014. With Björk and the Sugarcubes Einar has been described as the first punk in Iceland. He claims he became interested in punk rock after reading about Johnny Rotten vomiting on an aeroplane and listening to John Peel on his mother's car radio. Einar spent the summer of 1977 in London, where his father worked. Through this, he was able to make contacts enabling the Reykjavík arts festival to book The Clash in 1980. In the early 1980s, Einar was the lead singer of the short-lived punk group Purrkur Pillnikk. Rose McDowall
Rose McDowall (née Porter; born 21 October 1959) is a Scottish musician, forming Strawberry Switchblade with Jill Bryson in 1981. History McDowall was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1959. Her first venture into music was in the Poems, an art-punk trio formed in 1978 with her then-husband Drew McDowall. She then formed Strawberry Switchblade in 1981 with Jill Bryson. After signing with Warner Bros. Records, they enjoyed chart success with their single "Since Yesterday" in 1984; however, later singles and an album did not sell as well as expected. This and internal problems led to an acrimonious split in 1986. Sigtryggur Baldursson
Sigtryggur Baldursson (born 2 October 1962) is an Icelandic drummer and singer. Sigtryggur was born in Norway to Icelandic parents. He was a founding member of the Sugarcubes and has been a longtime fixture on the Icelandic punk and alternative music scene. Other bands he has played in have included Þeyr, Kukl, Emiliana Torrini, Ben Frost, Kippi Kaninus, SJS BIGBAND, Headpump, Bradley Fish and the Reptile Palace Orchestra. He has played on numerous recording with many artists, Howie B, and Les Negresses Vertes. He also has recorded under the name of Bogomil Font, his own crooner alter ego. He made two records under the name of Steintryggur with Steingrímur Guðmundsson. Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson (born 11 December 1954) is an Icelandic musician. Music career Early bands Steinblóm (Stone Flowers) (1969) was his first group. It was a trio formed by Guðlaugur (electric and acoustic guitars), Haraldur Johannessen (acoustic guitar) and Gunnar Magnússon (acoustic bass). Steinblóm played punk versions of artists such as Bob Dylan and Donovan, Guðlaugur originals and folk songs. At that time, he was experimenting with homemade electro-acoustic guitars and amplifiers. Steinblóm played gigs in Reykjavík and the suburbs. Lótus was created while he was at Laugarvatn high school in 1972.
