Iris Award
The NATPE Iris Awards are an honor for local television programming excellence presented annually in the United States by the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE). The awards were introduced in 1968 and were initially titled the Program Excellence Awards, but were renamed in 1977. The Iris Awards are the only national award meant to honor quality local television programming. From 1968 to 1997, the awards were presented at the annual NATPE Conference and Exhibition. After 1997, the awards were presented at a special ceremony in Los Angeles, California. NATPE’s Iris Awards were created to recognize best-in-class executives, program producers, creators, talent and importantly content that makes a significant impact on the industry and culture. The Iris Awards ( es, Premios Iris), created by the newspaper ''El País'', are given for achievements in Uruguayan radio, television and social networks. History The first edition of the awards was in 1983, although they were not given again until 1995. Since then they have been delivered annually. There are more than 30 categories, among which the Golden Iris ( es, Premio Iris de Oro) is most prominent. The awards are given by the newspaper ''El País'' and disseminated by its entertainment supplement ''Sábado Show''. The trophy's shape is based on a human figure holding an eye with a square iris. Depending on the profession of the person who won it, a different silhouette appears under the figure's feet – a film reel, musical note, etc. Since 2010, the ceremony has been broadcast live on television throughout Uruguay. Iris Prize
The Iris Prize, established in by Berwyn Rowlands of The Festivals Company, is an international LGBT film prize and festival which is open to any film which is by, for, about or of interest to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex audiences and which must have been completed within two years of the prize deadline. The prize is open to filmmakers from around the world and judged by a panel of international filmmakers and artists. The winner receives the largest prize for a gay and lesbian film in the world—a package valued at £30,000—allowing the winner to make their next film. It is awarded during an annual festival held in Cardiff that presents a programme of screenings including the competing films, several feature films, panel sessions with visiting filmmakers and culminates in a closing night award ceremony.
