An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. Albums of recorded sound were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78 rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl long-playing (LP) records played at rpm. Greg Brown (born Gregory Dane Brown July 2, 1949) is an American folk musician from Iowa. Early life Brown was born into a musical family, and his father was a Pentecostal minister. He grew up in the Hacklebarney region of southwestern Iowa, which he describes as "hill country." Red House Records is an independent folk and Americana record label in St. Paul, Minnesota. The label was founded in 1983 by Bob Feldman after seeing a performance by Iowa folk singer Greg Brown. Origin The label is named for a farmhouse in Iowa where Brown was living when he started it. After Brown's albums '' 44 & 66'' and '' The Iowa Waltz'' were released in 1981 and 1982, it briefly went dormant until he met Bob Feldman in 1983. ''One Night'' is an album by folk singer/guitarist Greg Brown. It was re-released on CD by Red House Records. It was during this concert at the Minneapolis folk club Coffeehouse Extempore that Red House Records founder Bob Feldman heard and met Greg Brown. He later reissued Brown's first two albums. The CD reissue of ''One Night'' adds five songs from the same show. Reception Writing for Allmusic, music critic Jeff Burger wrote of the album "The album finds Brown's talent in full bloom. Randy Sabien (; born September 26, 1956) is an American jazz violinist, composer, and music educator known for his live performances and numerous recordings, many of them on Flying Fish Records and Red House Records. At the age of 21 he founded and chaired the Jazz Strings department at Boston's Berklee College of Music and since 2009 has been the chair of the Strings department of McNally Smith College of Music. Prudence Johnson is an American folk and jazz singer. Early life and education Johnson grew up in a musical family in Moose Lake, Minnesota. She earned a bachelor's degree in international studies from Hamline University. Career In the early 1970s, Prudence was a co-founder with Tim Sparks of the vocal jazz group Rio Nido. The group recorded three albums and performed extensively, most often in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area. After her time with Rio Nido, she recorded three solo albums for Red House Records: ''Vocals'', ''Songs of Greg Brown'', and ''Little Dreamer'', the latter a collection of children's lullabies from around the world which earned Johnson a 1992 Grammy Award nomination.
