The Italy national alpine ski team represents Italy in international alpine skiing competitions such as Winter Olympic Games, FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. Alberto Tomba
Alberto Tomba Golden Collar of Sports Merit - Army Gold Cross of Merit (born 19 December 1966) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Italy. He was the dominant technical skier ( slalom and giant slalom) in the late 1980s and 1990s. At 182 cm and 90 kg, his powerful build was a contrast to the lighter, more traditional technical skiers who prioritised agility over muscle. Tomba was able to take advantage of the introduction of spring-loaded ski gates which replaced the older, solid gates in the early 1980s by using his power to maintain a faster, more direct line through courses. Tomba won three Olympic gold medals, two World Championships, and nine World Cup season titles: four in slalom, four in giant slalom, and one overall title. Werner Heel
Werner Heel (born 23 March 1982) is an Italian former World Cup alpine ski racer. Early life and career Born in Meran, Heel grew up in St. Leonhard in Passeier and currently resides in Meran, where he works as a police officer. Heel began skiing at the age of four, and his main disciplines are downhill and super-G. In order to be competitive in super combined he also practices slalom. In 2004 he won the Italian championship in super-G at Caspoggio. His career has been slowed by several injuries. Michael "Much" Mair (born 13 February 1962) is an Italian alpine skiing coach and former Alpine skier. Born in Bruneck, Italy, he won a total of three World Cup races. He closed 10th in overall in 1988 Alpine Skiing World Cup. He also competed at the 1984 Winter Olympics and the 1988 Winter Olympics. Herbert Plank (born 3 September 1954) is a former Italy, Italian Alpine skiing, alpine skier who competed in the 1976 Winter Olympics and in the 1980 Winter Olympics. Massimiliano "Max" Blardone (born 26 November 1979) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Italy. He specialized in the discipline of giant slalom. Marta Bassino (born 27 February 1996) is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. She competes in all disciplines, with a focus in giant slalom, in which she has six World Cup wins. Biography Born in Cuneo, Piedmont, Bassino lives in Borgo San Dalmazzo. Deborah Compagnoni Golden Collar of Sports Merit (born 4 June 1970) is an Italian former Alpine skier who won three gold medals at the 1992, 1994, and 1998 Winter Olympics. Biography Deborah Compagnoni was born in Bormio, northern Lombardy, and skied with the G.S. Forestale club. Compagnoni soon attracted attention for her great talent. Her career was always marked by major successes, but also by serious accidents. Denise Karbon
Denise Karbon (born 16 August 1980) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from South Tyrol, Italy. She competed in the technical events and specialized in giant slalom. Biography Born in Brixen, South Tyrol, Karbon made her World Cup debut in 1998 at age 17, while the following year she was Junior World Champion. She won a total of six World Cup giant slaloms: in December 2003 at Alta Badia and five of the first six races in the 2008 season. She obtained ten other podiums for a total of sixteen. Karbon won a silver medal at the 2003 World Championships in giant slalom, followed by a bronze in 2007 in the same discipline. In the 2008 season, Karbon won 5 of the 7 giant slalom races (and took third in another) to win the GS season title with 592 points, 113 points ahead of runner-up Elisabeth Görgl.
