ARTIST
An artist is a person engaged in an activity related to creating art, practicing the arts, or demonstrating the work of art. The most common usage (in both everyday speech and academic discourse) refers to a practitioner in the visual arts only. Giuseppe Alloia (active c. 1750), also known as Giuseppe Alloja, Aloia, Aloya, or Aleja, was an Italian copper plate engraver and painter, working in Naples. Innocenzio Ansaldi
Innocenzio Ansaldi (Pescia, Tuscany, February 12, 1734 - 1816) was an Italian painter and writer on art. Biography It is not clear that he is related to either Casto Innocenzio Ansaldi (1710 — 1780), a prolific contemporary writer and theologian from Piacenza or Giovanni Andrea Ansaldi (1584 – 1638), a prolific Genoese painter. Innocenzio enrolled to obtain a classical education at the College of Florence. However, he inclined towards painting and the arts. In Florence, he briefly worked with Father Alberigo de Vellano, a priest who had trained with Ottaviano Dandini and Sebastiano Conca. Patronage with various ecclesiastical and diplomatic figures allowed him to trave through Italy. Pietro Annigoni
Pietro Annigoni, OMRI (7 June 1910 – 28 October 1988) was an Italian artist, portrait painter, fresco painter and medallist, best known for his painted portraits of Queen Elizabeth II. His work was in the Renaissance tradition, contrasting with the modernist style that prevailed in his time. Life Born in Milan in 1910, Annigoni was influenced by the Italian Renaissance. From the end of the 1920s on, he lived mainly in Florence where he studied at the College of the Piarist Fathers. In 1927, he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where he attended the courses given by Felice Carena in painting, Giuseppe Graziosi in sculpture, and Celestino Celestini in etching. Sofonisba Anguissola
Sofonisba Anguissola ( – 16 November 1625), also known as Sophonisba Angussola or Sophonisba Anguisciola, was an Italian Renaissance painter born in Cremona to a relatively poor noble family. She received a well-rounded education that included the fine arts, and her apprenticeship with local painters set a precedent for women to be accepted as students of art. As a young woman, Anguissola traveled to Rome where she was introduced to Michelangelo, who immediately recognized her talent, and to Milan, where she painted Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, 3rd Duke of Alba. The Spanish queen, Elizabeth of Valois, was a keen amateur painter and in 1559 Anguissola was recruited to go to Madrid as her tutor, with the rank of lady-in-waiting. Fra Angelico
Fra Angelico, O.P. (; ; born Guido di Pietro; 18 February 1455) was a Dominican friar and Italian Renaissance painter of the Early Renaissance, described by Giorgio Vasari in his ''Lives of the Artists'' as having "a rare and perfect talent".Giorgio Vasari, ''Lives of the Artists''. Giuseppe Amisani
Giuseppe Amisani (7 December 1881 – 8 September 1941) was an Italian portrait painter of the Belle Époque. Life Amisani was born on 7 December 1881 in Piazza Mercato (now Piazza Giuseppe Amisani) in the comune of Mede di Lomellina, near Pavia in Lombardy, northern Italy. He studied at the technical institute of Pavia, where he failed the technical drawing course; he then studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan under Cesare Tallone and Vespasiano Bignami. He won the Mylius prize of the Academy for his painting ''l'Eroe'' ("the hero") in 1908, and in 1911 or 1912 won the Fumagalli prize for figure-painting with his portrait of Lyda Borelli. From then on he concentrated almost exclusively on portrait-painting; his landscapes of the Italian Alps, of Rhodes and of Tunisia also attracted interest. Jacopo Amigoni
Jacopo Amigoni (c. 1685 – September 1752), also named Giacomo Amiconi, was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque or Rococo period, who began his career in Venice, but traveled and was prolific throughout Europe, where his sumptuous portraits were much in demand. Biography He was born in Naples. Amigoni initially painted both mythological and religious scenes; but as the panoply of his patrons expanded northward, he began producing many parlour works depicting gods in sensuous languor or games. Jaber Alwan
Jaber Alwan (born 1948 in Babylon, Iraq) is an Italian artist and painter of Iraqi descent. Biography Born in Babylon, Iraq, in 1948, Alwan graduated from the Institute of Fine Art in Baghdad in 1970. In 1972 he arrived in Rome and started painting in the famous Piazza Navona. In 1975 he gained a diploma degree in Sculpture from the Rome Academy of Fine Art. Altichiero
Altichiero da Zevio (), also called Aldighieri da Zevio, was an Italian painter much influenced by Giotto, certainly through knowledge of the frescoes in the Cappella degli Scrovegni in Padua and quite possibly through having been trained in Florence by one of Giotto's pupils. Altichiero worked in Verona and Padua. Works by him survive in the church of Sant'Anastasia in Verona and in the Cappella di S Felice (originally Cappella di S Giacomo) in the basilica of Sant'Antonio (Il Santo) and the Oratorio di San Giorgio in Padua. His stature was compromised for a long time through his supposed collaboration with a certain Jacopo Avanzo or Avanzi, but study of the documents and historiography demonstrated Atichiero's authorship of the frescoes in both the Santo and the Oratorio di San Giorgio.
