István SzÃvós (water Polo, Born 1948)
István Antal SzÃvós, also known as István SzÃvós Jr. (, 24 April 1948 – 10 November 2019) was a Hungarian water polo player. He competed in four consecutive Olympics in 1968–1980 and won a medal in each of them, becoming one of eight male athletes who won four or more Olympic medals in water polo. He also won six gold or silver medals at world and European championships and nine national titles. Between 1966 and 1980 he played 308 international matches for Hungary. In 1996 he was inducted to the International Swimming Hall of Fame, one year earlier than his father István Sr., who won Olympic gold medals in water polo in 1952 and 1956. SzÃvós graduated from the Medical University in Budapest, where he later worked as a dentist. After retiring from competitions in 1980 he also became a water polo coach and president of Ferencvárosi TC, and served as a board member of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation. European Water Polo Championship
The European Water Polo Championship is a sport competition for national water polo teams, currently held biannually and organized by the Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN), the governing European aquatics federation. There are both men's and women's competitions. The first European Water Polo Championship was held in 1926 in Budapest, Hungary, with just a men's competition. The women for the first time competed in 1985 (Oslo, Norway) for the European title. The water polo tournament was part of the European Aquatics Championships up to and including 1997, and from 1999 the event was separated and got its own independent tournament. Márton SzÃvós
Márton Szivós (born 19 August 1981) is a Hungarian water polo player. He is part of the national team since 2003 and competed at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. He is a son of István SzÃvós, Jr. and a grandson of István SzÃvós, both of whom won Olympic gold medals in water polo. Szivós served in Hungarian Army. In 2012 he received a Silver Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary. In April 2014 he suffered chest pains during a local match. István SzÃvós (water Polo, Born 1920)
István SzÃvós Sr. (, 20 August 1920 – 22 June 1992) was a Hungarian water polo player. He was part of the Hungarian teams that won gold medals at the 1952 and 1956 Olympics and placed second in 1948. At the 1956 Olympics he also took part in the 200 m breaststroke swimming competition, but failed to reach the final. In 1997 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, one year later than his son István Jr., who competed in water polo at the 1968–1980 Olympics. He was given the honour to carry the national flag of Hungary at the opening ceremony of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, becoming the 14th water polo player to be a flag bearer at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics.
