Israeli Media
There are over ten different languages in the Israeli media, with Hebrew as the predominant one. Press in Arabic caters to the Arab citizens of Israel, with readers from areas including those governed by the Palestinian National Authority. During the eighties and nineties, the Israeli press underwent a process of significant change as the media gradually came to be controlled by a limited number of organizations, whereas the papers published by political parties began to disappear. Today, three large, privately owned conglomerates based in Tel Aviv dominate the mass media in Israel. Censorship in Israel is exercised when it is certain that publication of the item in question would harm public safety. When an item is censored, the newspaper may appeal the censor's ruling to a "committee of three," composed of a member of the public (who serves as the chairman), a representative of the army and a representative of the press. Michal HaCohen
Yitzhak Eliyahu Michal HaCohen (also known as Michael HaCohen) was a publisher and a journalist. He was one of the co-founders of Nahalat Shiv'a, one of the first Jewish neighborhoods built outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, and of '' HaLevanon'', the first Hebrew language newspaper established in Jerusalem and published in Palestine. Early life Michal HaCohen was born in Yasvin, Lithuania, in 1834, son of Badana and Rabbi Eliezer HaCohen, rabbi of the town's Jewish community. His grandfather was a rabbi, Rabbi Israel HaCohen as was his great-grandfather, Rabbi Michal of Datanva. In the winter of 1884, he, his parents and three sisters started their journey by sailing ship to immigrate to the Land of Israel. Israel Hayom
''Israel Hayom'' () is an Israeli Hebrew-language free daily newspaper. Distributed for free around Israel, it is the country's most widely distributed newspaper. Owned by the family of the late Sheldon Adelson, the casino mogul and political donor, ''Israel Hayom'' has been noted for its editorial stance and coverage of Israeli politics, often sparking debate about its political alignment. History ''Israel Hayom''s print edition, "financed by the American casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson," was launched on 30 July 2007, competing directly with '' Israeli'', another free daily. Arabic Language In Israel
In Israel, Arabic is spoken natively by over 20 percent of the Israeli population, predominantly by Arab citizens of Israel, but also by Jews who arrived in Israel from Arab countries. Some refer to the modern Hebrew-influenced Levantine Arabic vernacular as the "Israeli Arabic dialect" or colloquially as , a portmanteau of the Hebrew words () and (). Among Israeli Arabs in central Israel, the vernacular spoken is similar to Palestinian Arabic, while the Negev Bedouin traditionally speak their own dialect of Arabic. The dialects in the northern part of the country merge with southern Lebanese Arabic. The Cabinet of Israel (; ) is the cabinet which exercises executive authority in the State of Israel. It consists of ministers who are chosen and led by the prime minister.
