Isabel Gutiérrez De Bosch
Isabel Gutiérrez de Bosch (23 July 1931 – 6 September 2020) was a Guatemalan businesswoman and philanthropist who was awarded the Order of the Quetzal in 2005. Biography Isabel Gutiérrez de Bosch was born at San Cristóbal Totonicapán on 23 July 1931, the daughter of Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, founder of the Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI). She lived until the age of 5 in Totonicapán, after which her family moved to Quetzaltenango, where she remained until at age 19. She married Alfonso Bosch; they had five children, including Juan Luis and Felipe Bosch Gutiérrez, both businessmen. Her husband, along with her brother Dionisio, died in a plane crash in 1974 while most of her children were still young. She was founder and president of Fundaniñas, an organization that cares for abandoned girls, girls in conflict with the law, and young, low-income girls with potential. 1976 Guatemala Earthquake
The 1976 Guatemala earthquake struck on February 4 at with a moment magnitude of 7.5. The shock was centered on the Motagua Fault, about 160 km northeast of Guatemala City at a depth of near the town of Los Amates in the department of Izabal. The earthquake ruptured a continuous length of 240 km along the Motagua fault and might have extended further to the east and west but was blocked by vegetation and swamps. Cities throughout the country suffered damage, and most adobe type houses in the outlying areas of Guatemala City were destroyed. The earthquake struck during the early morning (at 3:01 am, local time) when most people were asleep. This contributed to the high death toll of 23,000. Approximately 76,000 were injured, and many thousands left homeless. Some of the areas affected went without electricity and communications for days. Hurricane Mitch
Hurricane Mitch was an extremely deadly and catastrophic Atlantic hurricane, which became the second-deadliest tropical cyclone in the Atlantic basin on record. Mitch caused 11,374 fatalities in Central America in 1998, including approximately 7,000 in Honduras and 3,800 in Nicaragua due to cataclysmic flooding from the slow motion of the storm. It was the deadliest hurricane in Central American history, surpassing Hurricane Fifi–Orlene, which killed slightly fewer people in the same area in 1974.
