Irish National Cycling Championships
The Irish National Cycling Championships are annual cycle sport, cycling races to decide the Irish National Cycling Championships, cycling champion for several disciplines, across several categories of rider. The men's road championship is usually held on a Sunday at the end of June; the women's race is held the previous day. The winning élite rider wears the national champion's jersey for all road races in the following 12 months. Unlike most countries, the jersey does not contain the national flag or stripes from the flag's colours; instead, the jersey has a wide green band superimposed with a shamrock, the national flower of Ireland. The men's under-23 champion is awarded to the first under-23 in the élite race. The junior road races are held on the same day as the élite and the time-trial championship is held earlier in the week. The national criteriums are held later in the summer. Páidí O'Brien (born 13 February 1984 in Cork (city), Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland) is a retired Ireland, Irish professional cycle sport, road racing cyclist. He won the Irish National Championships Irish National Cycling Championships#Men Under 23 (Espoir), Under-23 Road Race twice, and had five podium finishes in the Irish National Cycling Championships#Elite/Senior Men, Elite Road Race. Billy Kerr
Billy Kerr (26 February 1945 – 14 August 2012) was an Irish cyclist. He competed in the individual road race event at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Biography Kerr was born in February 1945 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. At the age of 16, Kerr was working in a local shoe factory and later joined the Ballymena Road Club. However, as a junior cyclist, Kerr initially had to give up the sport due to a back injury. After successful physiotherapy, Kerr won multiple club races and national championships in the 1970s. Kerr's took part in the road race and team pursuit events at the 1978 Commonwealth Games, his first international races. Four years later, at the 1982 Commonwealth Games, Kerr was part of the team that finished in fourth place in the team time trial. Nicolas Roche (; born 3 July 1984) is an Ireland, Irish cyclist, who competes in gravel cycling for his own NR GRVL team. He is also a former professional Road bicycle racing, road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2005 and 2021 for seven different teams. David O'Loughlin
David O'Loughlin (born 29 April 1978 in County Mayo, Ireland) is an Irish former professional cyclist, who rode at the World Championship (in both Road and Track disciplines) and Olympic levels, and won Ireland's first UCI World Cup Track medal. Ciarán Power (born 8 May 1976) is an Irish former professional racing cyclist, the first Irish cyclist to ride in a major tour since Stephen Roche in 1993. Power turned professional in 2000 with the Linda McCartney Racing Team and rode the 2000 Giro d'Italia, gaining 2 top ten stage finishes. When the McCartney team folded in 2001, Power joined the French team before moving to the US the following season and joining . After placing 3rd in the 1999 World 'B' road championship, Power came 74th in the 2000 Summer Olympics road race. Mark Scanlon (cyclist)
Mark Scanlon (born 10 October 1980) is an Irish former professional road racing cyclist, who was the first Irishman to ride in the Tour de France since 1993. He also competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Amateur career Scanlon came to prominence when he won the junior race at the 1998 world road race championship, on his 18th birthday. After winning the world championships, Scanlon signed for the Rabobank cycling team's development squad. He failed to break through because of injuries and he left in 2000. He joined CC Etupes in France and rode lesser French races. Linda McCartney Racing Team offered him a contract in 2001 but folded before he joined them. Blackpool, Cork
Blackpool () is a suburb of Cork city in County Cork, Ireland. It is situated in the north of the city, on the N20 road to Mallow. Blackpool is part of the Cork North Central Dáil constituency. David McCann (born 17 March 1973 in Belfast) is an Irish former professional road bicycle racer, who rode in the 1996, 2000 and 2012 Olympic Games. He was the Irish national road race champion in 2000, 2001 and 2006, and won the Irish national time trial championships a record 6 times (2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009 & 2010).
