The Latin language is still taught in many parts of the world. In many countries it is offered as an optional subject in some secondary schools and universities, and may be compulsory for students in certain institutions or following certain courses. For those wishing to learn the language independently, there are printed and online resources. For the most part, the language is treated as a written language in formal instruction; however, the Living Latin movement advocates teaching it also through speaking and listening. Philosophical aims Although Latin was once the universal academic language in Europe, academics no longer use it for writing papers or daily discourse. Furthermore, the Roman Catholic Church, as part of the Vatican II reforms in the 1960s, modernized its religious liturgies to allow less use of Latin and more use of vernacular languages. Green Eggs And Ham
''Green Eggs and Ham'' is a Children's literature, children's book by Dr. Seuss. It was published by the Beginner Books imprint of Random House on August 12, 1960. The book follows Sam-I-am as he follows an unnamed character, repeatedly asking him if he would like to try some green eggs and ham before the unnamed character eventually tries it and likes it. Seuss began writing ''Green Eggs and Ham'' after his editor Bennett Cerf bet him $50 () that he could not write an engaging children's book with a vocabulary of 50 words. Finding the challenge difficult, Seuss used notes, charts, and checklists to keep track of his progress. The book covers themes of conflict between individuals, though Seuss has said that it lacks any deeper meaning. National Senior Classical League
The National Senior Classical League (National SCL or NSCL) is an organization – mostly of college students – which promotes the study, appreciation and advancement of the Classics. It is the college-level affiliate of the National Junior Classical League (NJCL), and both organizations are sponsored by the American Classical League (ACL). Many graduates of NJCL go on to be members in NSCL; high school seniors on the cusp are known as "Slashers" – a reference to their status as "JCL/SCL" members. The organization also awards an annual scholarship to a Classics major, in hopes of producing capable Classics teachers for the future. Every year, members of the NSCL attend the NJCL convention to assist with and oversee some parts of the convention. The National Junior Classical League (National JCL or NJCL) is a youth organization of secondary school students sponsored and organized by the American Classical League (ACL). Founded in 1936, the NJCL comprises more than 1,000 Latin, Greek and Classical chapters in the United States, Canada, South Korea and the United Kingdom, and with over 45,000 members, is the largest Classical organization in the world today. Nuntii Latini is the name of several news services that broadcast in Latin. Finnish ''Nuntii Latini'' The Finnish ''Nuntii Latini'' was a Finnish news service broadcast in Latin between September 1989 and June 2019 by the Finnish national broadcaster Yle ''(Radiophonia Finnica Generalis)'' on the Yle Radio 1 channel. The name ''Nuntii Latini'' is Latin for ''Latin News'' or ''News in Latin''. Station output There was a five-minute long weekly broadcast of recent world news and human interest. Minimus
The Minimus books are a series of school textbooks, written by Barbara Bell, illustrated by Helen Forte, and published by the Cambridge University Press, designed to help children of primary school age to learn Latin. The books espouse some of the principles of the direct method of language teaching, and feature a mouse of the same name; is (Latin for "smallest", and also a pun on — Latin for "mouse". Latin literature includes the essays, histories, poems, plays, and other writings written in the Latin language.
