''Inside Story'' is a daily news programme broadcast by Al Jazeera English. The programme provides analysis and commentary on recent news stories and is modeled after ''Mā Warā’ al-Khabar'' (; ''Behind the News'') on the sister channel, Al Jazeera Arabic. Original version The original Al Jazeera English version of the programme broadcasts from Al Jazeera's studios in Doha, with an anchor who is joined by guests from around the globe. The hosts rotate depending upon the topic being covered. The programme began airing in November 2006 alongside the launch of Al Jazeera English. American version An American version of the show launched on Al Jazeera America on August 20, 2013 on the channel's debut and was first hosted by Libby Casey who afterwards acted as a fill in host. Doha ( ) is the capital city and main financial hub of Qatar. Qatar
Qatar, officially the State of Qatar, is a country in West Asia. It occupies the Geography of Qatar, Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East; it shares Qatar–Saudi Arabia border, its sole land border with Saudi Arabia to the south, with the rest of its territory surrounded by the Persian Gulf. Al Jazeera English (AJE; , ) is a 24-hour English-language News broadcasting, news channel operating under Al Jazeera Media Network, which is funded by the government of Qatar. Al Jazeera introduced an English-language division in 2006. It is the first global English-language news channel to be headquartered in the Middle East. Al Jazeera is known for its in-depth and frontline reporting particularly in conflict zones such as the Arab Spring, the Gaza–Israel conflict and others. Al Jazeera Arabic ( , ) is a Qatari state-funded Arabic-language news television network. It is based in Doha and operated by the Al Jazeera Media Network, which also operates Al Jazeera English. Al Jazeera America was an American pay television news channel owned by the Al Jazeera Media Network. The channel was launched on August 20, 2013, to compete with CNN, HLN, MSNBC, Fox News, and in certain markets RT America. It was Al Jazeera's second entry into the U.S. television market, after the launch of beIN Sports in 2012. The channel, which had persistently low ratings, announced in January 2016 that it would close in April of that year. Rafael Suarez, Jr. (born March 5, 1957), known as Ray Suarez, is an American broadcast journalist and author. He is currently host of the PBS series "Wisdom Keepers" set to premiere on the public network in June 2025. He was a visiting professor at NYU Shanghai in 2022, and was previously the John J. McCloy Visiting professor of American Studies at Amherst College. For 7 years from 2018 to 2025, Suarez hosted a radio program and several podcast series: ''On Shifting Ground'' for KQED-FM, ''Going for Broke'' for the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, and "The Things I Thought About When My Body Was Trying to Kill Me" on cancer and recovery for Evergreen Podcasts. ''UpFront'' is a current affairs discussion, debate and analysis programme on Al Jazeera English. The show premiered on 4 September 2015 shortly after Al Jazeera moved into their new Washington D.C. hub. The show has a politics focus although other subjects are broached such as religion, economics, development and government activities. The show is weekly and premieres new episodes on Fridays. The programme is centred around current affairs with each episode dedicated to one or two topics. Typically each episode consists of the host doing an interview with a guest on a particular subject, which is followed by a debate on the subject. The premiere episode featured an interview with Edward Snowden about the National Security Agency leaks.
