Inside (1996 Film)
''Inside'' is a 1996 cable television film directed by Arthur Penn based on a script by Bima Stagg. It was the Penn's final film before dying in 2010. The film was shot in Johannesburg, South Africa and premiered in the USA on Showtime (TV channel), Showtime on 25 August 1996. The film was then released theatrically in several markets and played at several film festivals around the world including Cannes, Toronto, San Francisco and Munich. The film was nominated for an Emmy Award, Emmy, and a CableACE award, Cable Ace Award. Plot Colonel Kruger (Nigel Hawthorne) tortures a political prisoner (Eric Stoltz) to learn who his Internal resistance to South African apartheid, anti-apartheid collaborators are. Ten years later, this same Colonel himself becomes a prisoner and is interrogated about his own offenses. Bima Stagg
Bima Stagg (May 3, 1945 – October 21, 2021) also known as Kipp Stagg, was an American screenwriter and actor based in Los Angeles, California. While attending Columbia University in New York, Stagg met artist Andy Warhol. They formed a friendship and Stagg became a regular at The Factory. Stagg starred alongside Edie Sedgwick in the film ''Beauty No. 1'' (1965), and he appeared in Warhol's ''Screen Tests''. Several independent sectors of South African society opposed apartheid through various means, including social movements, passive resistance, and guerrilla warfare. Mass action against the ruling National Party (NP) government, coupled with South Africa's growing international isolation and economic sanctions, were instrumental in leading to negotiations to end apartheid, which began formally in 1990 and ended with South Africa's first multiracial elections under a universal franchise in 1994.
