Inistioge
Inistioge (; ) is a small village in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Historically, its name has been spelt as Ennistioge, Ennisteage, and in other ways. The village is situated on the River Nore, southeast of Kilkenny. Inistioge is in a townland and Civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish of the same name. Situated along the River Nore, Inistioge is entered by crossing a 10 arch stone bridge. The village has a tree-lined square and a number of 18th and 19th century homes along the river. Inistioge and its village green have been used as a filming location for a number of films. Inistioge developed significantly during the 18th and 19th centuries as a part of the Tighe families' Woodstock Estate. Edward Tighe
Edward Tighe (1740-1801) was an Irish lawyer, writer and politician, who represented a number of constituencies in the Irish House of Commons. The son of William Tighe, MP for Wexford then for Wicklow, and Mary Bligh (daughter of John Bligh, 1st Earl of Darnley), he was educated at Eton College, and St. John's College, Cambridge, and called to the English bar in 1759 and the Irish bar in 1776. Political career Tighe was first elected to the Irish parliament for Belturbet, Co. Cavan, in 1763, elected for Wicklow (succeeding his brother Richard William Tighe) in 1768, then Athboy Co. Meath, from 1776 (succeeding his elder brother William Tighe) until 1773 when he represented Wicklow again until 1797. Lodge Evans de Montmorency, 1st Viscount Frankfort de Montmorency PC (26 January 1747 – 21 September 1822), known as Lodge Morres until 1800 and as The Lord Frankfort between 1800 and 1816, was an Irish politician. Background Born Lodge Morres, he was the son of Redmond Morres and Elizabeth, daughter of Francis Lodge. Hervey Morres, 1st Viscount Mountmorres and Sir William Morres, 1st Baronet, were his uncles. Political career Morres was elected a member of the Irish House of Commons for Inistioge in 1768, a seat he held until 1770, and later represented Bandon Bridge between 1776 and 1796, Ennis between 1796 and 1797, and Dingle between 1798 and 1800. He was sworn of the Irish Privy Council in 1796 and served as a Lord of the Treasury between 1796 and 1806. His sudden and premature death was popularly believed to be due to a chill caught when watching an eclipse of the sun. Background He was born in Crumlin, Dublin, son of Joseph Deane (of Deanehill, County Meath) and his wife Elizabeth Parker, daughter of John Parker, Archbishop of Dublin, and his wife Mary Clarke. His grandfather Major Joseph Deane was a close associate of Oliver Cromwell and a cousin of Richard Deane, the regicide. For his good services to Cromwell, the Major received large grants of land in five counties. The 1761 Irish general election was the first general election to the Irish House of Commons in over thirty years, with the previous general election having taken place in 1727. Despite few constituencies hosting electoral contests, the election was significant due to it taking place in a time of rising political awareness within the Irish public, with many being drawn to the cause of patriotism. Background Unlike England, which had passed the Triennial Acts in 1694, thereby requiring elections every 3 years (and following 1716 every 7 years), Ireland had passed no similar pieces of legislation. As a result, the only limit on a term of parliament was the life of the monarch. This did not mean that the Commons had the same membership between 1727 and 1761, and numerous vacancies had occurred over the years, which had in turn been filled through by-elections.
