Indiegogo is an American crowdfunding website founded in 2008 by Danae Ringelmann, Slava Rubin, and Eric Schell. Its headquarters are in San Francisco, California. The site is one of the first sites to offer crowd funding. Indiegogo allows people to solicit funds for an idea, charity, or start-up business. Indiegogo charges a 5% fee on contributions. This charge is in addition to Stripe (company), Stripe credit card processing charges of 2,9% + $0.30 per transaction. Fifteen million people visit the site each month. The site runs on a rewards-based system, meaning donors, investors, or customers who are willing to help to fund a project or product can donate and receive a gift, rather than an equity stake in the company. "Making The Bus Monitor Cry" is one of three videos filmed in June 2012 which focused on a bus monitor, who was targeted for bullying by four seventh graders attending Greece Athena Middle School. The video went viral and received numerous video responses and news coverage. A donation campaign was launched for the victim. Background The bus monitor, Karen Huff Klein (68 at the time of the filming) was an employee of the Greece Central School District in Upstate New York. After serving 20 years as a bus driver, Klein had been a bus monitor for 3 years. Klein, at the time of the incident, had been a widow since 1995 and had eight grandchildren; she was partly deaf and used a hearing aid. The Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe (also known as TSCW) is a nonprofit organization established to develop a regional science and technology center, museum and makerspace at the site of Nikola Tesla's former Wardenclyffe laboratory on Long Island, New York.
