Independence For Scotland Party
The Independence for Scotland Party (ISP) (Scottish Gaelic: ''Pàrtaidh Neo-eisimeileachd do dh'Alba'') is a minor political party in Scotland which supports Scottish independence within the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). History The party was founded in 2020 and was registered by the Electoral Commission on 7 May 2020. On 8 January 2021, Roddy McCuish became the first elected representative of the ISP, when he joined the party while on Argyll and Bute Council, having been elected as an independent and then later moving to the party. He had been both a Scottish National Party representative and an independent. In March 2022, McCuish announced that he would not be standing for re-election at the 5 May 2022 Scottish local elections. Kenneth Wright MacAskill (born 28 April 1958) is a Scottish politician who was a Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for East Lothian (UK Parliament constituency), East Lothian from 2019 United Kingdom general election in Scotland, 2019 to 2024 United Kingdom general election, 2024. 2023 Rutherglen And Hamilton West By-election
A 2023 by-election took place in the United Kingdom parliamentary constituency of Rutherglen and Hamilton West (UK Parliament constituency), Rutherglen and Hamilton West on 5 October 2023, following the recall of incumbent MP Margaret Ferrier. Ferrier, elected for the Scottish National Party, was Suspension from the UK parliament, suspended from the House of Commons in June 2023 for 30 days for breaching COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom, COVID-19 regulations in 2020. In accordance with the Recall of MPs Act 2015, this suspension triggered a recall petition in the constituency. This petition was successful, resulting in her removal from the seat and thus triggering a by-election. Alba Party
The Alba Party (; ''Alba'' being the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland) is a Scottish nationalist and Scottish independence, pro-independence political party in Scotland. Founded in February 2021, it was led by former First Minister of Scotland, first minister of Scotland and SNP leader Alex Salmond until his death in 2024. Salmond launched the party's 2021 Scottish Parliament election campaign in March 2021, with the party standing only region (list) candidates, but no constituency candidates. 2022 Scottish Local Elections
The 2022 Scottish local elections were held on 5 May 2022, as part of the 2022 United Kingdom local elections. All 1,226 seats across all 32 Scottish local government, Scottish local authorities were up for election and voter turnout was 44.8%. Compared to the 2017 Scottish local elections, previous elections of 2017, the Scottish National Party (SNP) gained seats and maintained its position as largest party in local government, winning 36.9% of the seats available. Scottish Labour (winning 22.9% of seats) gained seats, whilst the Scottish Conservatives (who won 17.5%) lost many seats, being displaced by Scottish Labour as the second-largest party. Scottish Independence
Scottish independence (; ) is the idea of Scotland regaining its independence and once again becoming a sovereign state, independent from the United Kingdom. The term Scottish independence refers to the political movement that is campaigning to bring it about. Scotland was an independent kingdom through the Middle Ages, and fought wars to maintain its independence from England. The two kingdoms were united in personal union in 1603 when the Scottish King James VI became James I of England, and the two kingdoms united politically into one kingdom called Great Britain in 1707. This movement united the countries which ended the wars of independence and created relative peace. An independent politician or non-affiliated politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or Bureaucracy, bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party and therefore they choose not to affiliate with them.
