Ifigenia (novel)
''Ifigenia'' (in English ''Iphigenia: Diary of a Young Girl Who Wrote Because She Was Bored'') is a 1924 Venezuelan novel by Teresa de la Parra. ''Ifigenia'' marked a change in Latin American literature. The novel is a feminist critique of Caracan society in the early twentieth century. Strict moral rules are represented by the grandmother in this novel, and the character of Uncle Pancho represents the ambitious personality which was common at the time due to political corruption. Besides being a harsh criticism of society, ''Ifigenia'' is a fast-paced work with detailed descriptions. The novel caused serious problems for the author because the Venezuelan dictator Juan Vicente Gómez denied her a grant to publish the book. De la Parra decided to move to Paris. A veiled criticism of the regime of Gomez can be seen in ''Ifigenia''. Gonzalo Torrente Ballester
Gonzalo Torrente Ballester (13 June 1910 – 27 January 1999) was a Spanish writer associated with the Generation of '36 movement. Life He was born in Serantes, Ferrol, Galicia, and received his first education there, subsequently attending the universities of Santiago de Compostela and Oviedo. Although primarily a novelist, he also published journalism, essays, and plays. His career as a writer began in Oviedo, but developed largely in Madrid. Before the outbreak of the Spanish civil war, he traveled to Paris with the intention of writing his doctoral thesis and there he was surprised by the coup d'etat of July 18, 1936. After hesitating, he returned to Spain in October to be with his family. From the bus that was taking him home, he saw the bodies of victims of the repression in the ditches. ''Ifigenia'' is a tragic opera in one act by Ildebrando Pizzetti, who also wrote the libretto with . The libretto is in Italian language. It was premiered as a radio broadcast from RAI Auditorium in Turin on 3 October 1950. In the same year, it received the first prize of Prix Italia radio annual award, that was held in Turin. The opera made its theatrical debut at Teatro Comunale in Florence on 9 May 1951 during the 14th Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival. Ifigenia Martínez Y Hernández
Ifigenia Martha Martínez y Hernández (16 June 1925 – 5 October 2024) was a Mexican economist, diplomat, and politician who served as the President of the Chamber of Deputies (Mexico), president of the Chamber of Deputies in 2024. Martínez earned her undergraduate degree in economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and later obtained a master's in economics from Harvard University. In 1966, she became the first woman to lead UNAM's Faculty of Economics, serving in this capacity until 1970. Throughout her career, Martínez was associated with various left-wing movements, including the progressive wing of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), and the Morena (political party), National Regeneration Movement (Morena).
