Idukki District
Idukki (ഇടുക്കി; ) is one of the 14 districts in the Indian state of Kerala in the southwest of the country. It is the largest district in Kerala and lies amid the Cardamom Hills of Western Ghats in Kerala. Idukki district contains two municipal towns – Kattappana and Thodupuzha, and five taluks. The district was constituted on 26 January 1972, by taking Peerumade, Udumbanchola, Devikulam taluks of the former High Range division from Kottayam district and the Thodupuzha taluk from Ernakulam district. Its division was previously headquartered at Kottayam city but moved to Kuyilimala near Painavu and Cheruthoni in June 1976. Malayalam and English are the two official administrative languages in the district. Tamil is the second most spoken language in Idukki district after Malayalam. Devikulam
Devikulam is a Grama Panchayat and small hill station about away from Munnar in the Idukki District of Kerala, India. It lies about above sea level. Etymology The name Devikulam is a conjunction of the words ''Devi'', from the goddess Devi and ''kulam'', meaning pond. Demographics As of 2011 Census, Devikulam Grama Panchayat had a population of 23,709 among which 11,912 are males and 11,797 are females. The total number of families in the Panchayat limits were 6,166. The average sex ratio was 990, lower than the state average of 1084. In Devikulam, 8% of the population was under 6 years of age. High Range, Kerala
The High Ranges (aka High Range or High-range) of Kerala is a hilly tract located across the Kerala state of southern India and is treated as a part of the Western Ghats. This tract includes large and thick tropical forests, mountain peaks such as Anamudi as well as several areas of human settlement and plantations. Major tourist attractions locations along the high ranges include the hill stations Munnar, Vagamon and Thekkady. The major settlements in high range are Kattappana, Adimali, Kumily, Peermade and Mundakayam. Kattappana
Kattappana ( aʈ:ap:ɐna is a municipality in the Idukki district of Kerala, India. It is located 21 km (13.0 mi) southeast of the district headquarters in Painavu and about 140 km (87.0 mi) north of the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram. Kattappana is the second-largest municipality in the district by population, and serves as a major hub for commercial and economic activity for the surrounding region. Kattappana was formed primarily by settlers from Pala, Kanjirapally, Thodupuzha, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam in the 1950s, and was given the status of gram panchayat in 1962.
