Ian Clarke (computer Scientist)
Ian Clarke (born 16 February 1977) is the original designer and lead developer of Freenet. Early life Clarke grew up in Navan, County Meath, Ireland. He was educated at Dundalk Grammar School and while there, he came first twice in the Senior Chemical, Physical, and Mathematical section of the Young Scientist Exhibition. The first time, in 1993, was with a project entitled "The C Neural Network Construction Kit". The second time, the following year, was with a project entitled "Mapping Internal Variations in Translucency within a Translucent Object using Beams of Light". Freenet In 1995, Clarke left Dundalk to study Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. While at Edinburgh, he became president of the then dormant Artificial Intelligence Society, resulting in its revival. Navan
Navan ( ; , meaning "the Cave") is the county town of County Meath, Ireland. In 2016, it had a population of 30,173, making it the tenth largest settlement in Ireland. It is at the confluence of the River Boyne and Blackwater, around 50 km northwest of Dublin. History and name Navan is a Norman foundation: Hugh de Lacy, who was granted the Lordship of Meath in 1172, awarded the Barony of Navan to one of his knights, Jocelyn de Angulo, who built a fort there, from which the town developed. Inside the town walls, Navan consisted of three streets. These were Trimgate Street, Watergate St. and Ludlow St. (which was once called Dublingate St.). The orientation of the three original streets remains from the Middle Ages but the buildings date from the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Indy (software)
Indy is a music discovery tool for computers with an Internet connection. It uses collaborative filtering to automatically download music the user is likely to enjoy listening to. Indy is similar to iRATE radio, but does not include a built-in file manager. Indy automatically downloads music from public websites and continuously plays new titles. The user can rate the titles during or after playback. These ratings are then matched against the tastes of other listeners, and newly downloaded titles are meant to be more likely to be enjoyable to the listener. Every track can be given a rating from 1 to 5 stars. If the song is still playing when the user assigns the score, a rating lower than 3 stars skips to the next title. Indy's user interface is highly simplified. The makers of the program recommend to only use Indy to discover music, and to utilize other applications to organize and repeatedly listen to it.
