"I'm Sorry" is a R&B/Soul song by the American vocal group The Delfonics, released in April 1968. The song was the Delfonics' second chart single and the follow-up to their smash hit "La-La (Means I Love You)", which went to number 4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100; "I'm Sorry" was quite reminiscent of their earlier hit, complete with similar-sounding "la la las". "I'm Sorry" just missed the pop Top 40 (peaking at number 42), but was a solid performer on the soul chart, hitting number 15. The Delfonics
The Delfonics were an American R&B/soul vocal group from Philadelphia. The Delfonics were most popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Their most notable hits include " La-La (Means I Love You)", " Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)", "Break Your Promise", " I'm Sorry", and " Ready or Not Here I Come (Can't Hide from Love)". Their hit songs were primarily written by lead vocalist and founding member William "Poogie" Hart, and arranger and producer Thom Bell. Wilbert Hart is the last surviving founding member. Philadelphia soul, sometimes called Philly soul, the Philadelphia sound, Phillysound, or The Sound of Philadelphia (TSOP), is a genre of late 1960s–1970s soul music characterized by funk influences and lush string and horn arrangements. The genre laid the groundwork for the emergence of disco later in the 1970s by fusing the R&B rhythm sections of the 1960s with the pop vocal tradition, and featuring a more pronounced jazz influence in its melodic structures and arrangements. Philly Groove Records
Philly Groove Records was a soul music label started by Stan Watson and Sam Bell in 1967, with noted producer Thom Bell doing A&R. The label's best-known artists were male vocal group the Delfonics and female group First Choice. Both acts enjoyed a run of hits during the late 1960s and early 1970s, especially on the R&B charts. The label also had other artists such as Nat Turner Rebellion and David Lasley. It, along with Philadelphia International Records, was instrumental in establishing the Philadelphia soul sound. The label was distributed by Bell Records from its inception in 1967 until 1974, when the label closed down shortly after Bell Records became Arista Records. In 2012, independent music publisher Reservoir Media Management acquired Philly Groove Records and its sister music publishing company, Nickel Shoe Music. James Warren Jones (May 13, 1931 – November 18, 1978) was an American cult leader, preacher and mass murderer who founded and led the Peoples Temple between 1955 and 1978. Jones and the members of his inner circle planned and orchestrated a mass murder–suicide which he described as “revolutionary suicide”, in his remote jungle commune at Jonestown, Guyana on November 18, 1978, including the assassination of U.S. congressman Leo Ryan. The Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, better known by its informal name "Jonestown", was a remote settlement in Guyana established by the Peoples Temple, an American religious movement under the leadership of Jim Jones. Jonestown became internationally infamous when, on November 18, 1978, a total of 918 people died at the settlement; at the nearby airstrip in Port Kaituma; and at a Temple-run building in Georgetown, Guyana's capital city. The name of the settlement became synonymous with the incidents at those locations.
