I'll Be Here Awhile
"I'll Be Here Awhile" is a single by alternative rock band 311 (band), 311. It is the 12th and closing track on their album ''From Chaos''. Lead singer Nick Hexum originally wrote it when he was twenty, hence the line in the refrain "Twenty years of age, " though Hexum was thirty when he recorded it. He comments on the interview included on the disc of ''From Chaos'' that he was living a wild and crazy life at that young age. The lyrics "And if a person, place, or thing can deliver/ I will quiver with delight" are taken directly from "The Lust, The Flesh, The Eyes, and the Pride of Life" a song by the Christian alternative rock group The 77s which had appeared on their The 77s (album), 1987 self-titled album. "I'll Be Here Awhile" reached number 15 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2001. 311 (pronounced "three eleven") is an American Rock music, rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. The band was formed in 1988 by vocalist and guitarist Nick Hexum, lead guitarist Jim Watson, bassist Aaron "P-Nut" Wills, and drummer Chad Sexton. Watson was replaced by Tim Mahoney in 1990. In 1992, Doug "SA" Martinez joined as a second vocalist and turntablist. 311 has released fourteen studio albums, two live albums, four compilation albums, four EPs and four DVDs. After a series of independent releases, 311 was signed to Capricorn Records in 1992 and released the albums ''Music (311 album), Music'' (1993) and ''Grassroots (album), Grassroots'' (1994) to moderate success. The 77s
The 77s (alternatively spelled the Seventy Sevens, the 77's, or simply 77's) is an American rock band consisting of Michael Roe on vocals/guitar, Mark Harmon on bass guitar, and Bruce Spencer on drums. History The group was "formed at a church by a church" under the name Scratch Band in Sacramento, California, during the late 1970s according to Mike Roe. Accompanying him were Mark Tootle on guitar and keyboards, Jan Eric Volz on bass guitar, and Mark Proctor on drums. They were occasionally joined by singer Sharon McCall and guitarist Jimmy A. Their repertoire included originals and songs by English poet Steve Scott among others. ''From Chaos'' is the sixth studio album by 311, released on June 19, 2001. It was their first album to be released through Volcano Entertainment, and their first to be recorded through their own recording studio, The Hive in North Hollywood, California. Singles from this album include " You Wouldn't Believe", "I'll Be Here Awhile", and "Amber". Background Much of the album ''From Chaos'' was written by the band while on tour in 2000 promoting their fifth studio album 'Soundsystem.' The album name 'From Chaos' was inspired by the band’s situation with their previous record label of seven years, Capricorn Records. According to singer Nick Hexum, they "had a lot of disagreements with Capricorn over the years and it was just time to end our relationship."
