"Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" is a song by Ian Dury and the Blockheads, first released as a single on Stiff Records in the UK on 23 November 1978 and credited to "Ian & the Blockheads". Written by Dury and the Blockheads' multi-instrumentalist Chaz Jankel, it is the group's most successful single, reaching number one on the UK Singles Chart in January 1979 as well as reaching the top three in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and it was also a top 20 hit in several European countries. "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" was named the 12th best single of 1978 by the writers of British music magazine ''NME'', and best single of 1979 in the annual 'Pazz & Jop' poll organised by music critic Robert Christgau in ''The Village Voice''. Ian Robins Dury (12 May 1942 27 March 2000) was a British singer, songwriter and actor who rose to fame during the late 1970s, during the punk and new wave era of rock music. He was the lead singer and lyricist of Ian Dury and the Blockheads and before that of Kilburn and the High Roads. Norman Joseph Watt-Roy (born 15 February 1951) is an English musician, arranger and composer. Watt-Roy's music career spans more than 40 years. He came to prominence in the late 1970s, during the punk and new wave era of rock music as the bass player for Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Will Birch (born 12 September 1948) is an English people, English music journalist, songwriter, record producer and drummer. Career Birch was born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. He played drums in various musical ensemble, bands in the Southend-on-Sea, Southend area before helping to form The Kursaal Flyers in 1973. Featuring singing, singer Paul Shuttleworth, the Flyers developed a strong live reputation on London's Pub rock (United Kingdom), pub rock scene in the mid-1970s, and released several albums. Their biggest commercial success came with the uncharacteristic Mike Batt record producer, produced hit single, "Little Does She Know", in 1976, which Birch co-wrote. The record covers a diverse range of musical styles which reflect Dury's influences and background in pub rock, taking in funk, disco, British music hall and early rock and roll, courtesy of Dury's musical hero Gene Vincent. Rolvenden is a village and civil parish in the Ashford District of Kent, England. The village is centred on the A28 Ashford to Hastings road, south-west of Tenterden.
