Hercules
Hercules (, ) is the Roman equivalent of the Greek divine hero Heracles, son of Jupiter and the mortal Alcmena. In classical mythology, Hercules is famous for his strength and for his numerous far-ranging adventures. The Romans adapted the Greek hero's iconography and myths for their literature and art under the name ''Hercules''. In later Western art and literature and in popular culture, ''Hercules'' is more commonly used than ''Heracles'' as the name of the hero. Hercules is a multifaceted figure with contradictory characteristics, which enabled later artists and writers to pick and choose how to represent him. Hercule Nicolet (18 January 1801 Neuchâtel – 16 September 1872) born Louis-Ami-Hercule Nicolet, was a Swiss lithographer, natural history illustrator, librarian at '' École nationale vétérinaire d'Alfort'' from 1861 to 1870, and entomologist who specialized in Thysanura and Collembola. Hercule Nicolet was the son of Bénédict-Alphonse Nicolet (1743-1807). He was the business partner of Jean Coulin (1822-1883) in the lithographic firm of Hercule "Nicolet and Coulin fils", pressing the plates for ''Mémoires de la Société des Sciences Naturelles de Neuchâtel'' co-edited by Louis Agassiz and many other geological and natural history works. The ''Hercule'' class was a late type of 100-gun ships of the line of the French Navy. They were the second strongest of four ranks of ships of the line designed by the Commission de Paris The Commission de Paris was a body of French naval engineers gathered in 1821 to design the future frigates and ships of the line of the French Navy for the post-Empire era. Presided by Jacques-Noël Sané, the Commission comprised Jean-Marguerite .... Ercole Giuseppe Lodovico Turinetti, marchese di Priero e di Pancalieri also marchese di Priè (in Italian) or Hercule-Louis Turinetti, marquis de Prié (in French) (Turin, 27 November 1658 – Vienna, 12 January 1726), was interim Governor of the Habsburg Netherlands between 1716 and 1724. The Italian Marquis di Priè was deputy for the absent governor-general, Prince Eugene of Savoy. Turinetti ruled in a highly despotic manner, which eventually turned the entire country against him. He overhauled the structure of the Brussels central government, replacing the former Council of State, Council of Finance and the Secret Council by one all encompassing Council of State under his own supervision. Pierre François Hercule de Serre (12 March 1776 – 21 July 1824) was a French soldier, lawyer and politician. He was a deputy from 1815 to 1824, and was Minister of Justice in three successive cabinets from 1818 to 1821. He sat on the center-right, but had liberal views on press freedom, direct elections and the use of juries. Early years Pierre François Hercule de Serre was born in Pagny-sur-Moselle, Meurthe, on 12 March 1776. His family originated in the Comtat Venaissin, but had become established in Lorraine. His father was François-Louis de Serre, a former cavalry officer, lord of the fief of Coureol, and Barbe-Marguerite de Maudhuy de Beauharnais. Hercule de Serre was destined for a career in the army, and studied at the School of Artillery at Chalons-sur-Marne.
