Hungary Women's National Handball Team
The Hungary women's national handball team () is the national team of Hungary. It is governed by the Hungarian Handball Federation () and takes part in international handball competitions. The team won the World Championship in 1965 and the European Championship in 2000. World Championship Hungary is regularly present at World Championships, having missed only 1990 and recently 2011. The Hungarian Handball Federation (, , MKSZ) is the national handball federation in Hungary. The Hungarian Handball Federation is a member of the European Handball Federation (EHF) and the International Handball Federation (IHF). Its headquarters are in Budapest. World Women's Handball Championship
The IHF Women's Handball World Championship has been organized by the International Handball Federation since 1957. European teams have won every time except 1995 where South Korea won as the first team outside Europe and 2013 where Brazil won as the first American team. The biggest winners are Russia and Norway with four titles each. Nine teams participated in the first championship, this number has grown in steps to 32 (from 2021). In 1977 a B-tournament was introduced and later in 1986 a C-tournament which served as qualification for the real championship or A-tournament. The B- and C-tournament qualifications were replaced by the present qualification system based on continental confederations in 1993. From 1993 it has been held every other year. 2024 European Women's Handball Championship
The 2024 European Women's Handball Championship was held in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland from 28 November to 15 December 2024. This was the first tournament to feature 24 teams. Norway were the two time defending champions and defended their title once again with a win over Denmark. 2012 European Women's Handball Championship
The 2012 European Women's Handball Championship was held in Serbia from 4 to 16 December. Originally the tournament was scheduled to be held in the Netherlands but on 4 June 2012 the Dutch Handball Federation withdrew from the organization. Subsequently, the European Handball Federation (EHF) launched a new bidding process and eventually selected Serbia as the new host on 18 June 2012. Montenegro captured their first title by defeating defending champion Norway 34–31 in the final. Host selection Initially on its meeting on 27 September 2008 the EHF awarded the championship to the Netherlands, defeating Ukraine in the second round of voting while Germany and Serbia withdrew their candidacy during the congress. The 1998 EHF European Women's Handball Championship was the third edition of the European Women's Championship. It was held in the Netherlands from 11 to 20 December.
