The Honda Indy V8 is a 3-litre and 3.5-litre, naturally aspirated engine, naturally-aspirated V8 engine, V8 racing engine, developed and produced by Honda Performance Development in partnership with Ilmor, Ilmor Engineering for the IndyCar Series. The V8 was a highly successful IndyCar Series engine from 2003 IndyCar Series season, 2003 to 2011 IndyCar Series season, 2011 season before being replaced by Honda Indy V6 for 2012 IndyCar Series season, the following season. 2011 IndyCar Series Season
The 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series was the 16th season of the IndyCar Series and the 100th recognized season of American open-wheel motor racing. The season was sanctioned by IndyCar and was part of the Mazda Road to Indy. The season began in March and concluded in October, consisting of seventeen events. It was the final season running the Dallara IR-05 spec cars, which had been the series' sole chassis supplier since 2007. It was also the final season running the '' Honda Indy V8'' naturally-aspirated engines, which had been the series' sole engine supplier since 2006. 2004 Indianapolis 500
The 88th Indianapolis 500 was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana, on Sunday, May 30, 2004. It was part of the 2004 IndyCar Series season and the ninth Indy 500 sanctioned by the IndyCar, Indy Racing League. Buddy Rice won the List of Indianapolis 500 pole-sitters, pole position, the Pit Stop Challenge, pit stop contest, led the most laps, and the race for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, team owners Bobby Rahal and David Letterman. The race began two hours behind schedule due to a morning rain delay. After 27 laps had been completed, rain began to fall again and threatened to wash out the rest of the day. 2004 IndyCar Series Season
The 2004 IRL IndyCar Series was dominated by two teams, Andretti Green Racing and Rahal Letterman Racing. While there was great parity in 2003 between Honda and Toyota powered teams, in 2004 Honda began to outshine Toyota bringing their teams Penske Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing down with it, leaving Scott Dixon winless and in 10th place in his attempt to defend his 2003 championship. Season champion Tony Kanaan set a record by completing all 3,305 possible laps, the first IndyCar driver in modern history to do so. This season was the last to feature an all oval tracks schedule, which was part of the concept that led to the creation of the Indy Racing League. Access Motorsports
Access Motorsports was an American auto racing team that competed in the IndyCar Series from 2003-2004. Founded by 1999 Indy Racing League champion Greg Ray after failing to find a ride for the 2003 season, the team debuted at the 2003 Indianapolis 500 and ran the rest of the season with Ray as owner/driver. He would finish 15th in the points standings. Access Motorsports was the only team that year to run a G-Force chassis and a Honda engine, with Honda also making its debut that season. The combo was not particularly competitive, with Ray never finishing higher than 8th and only ever qualifying as high as 5th. The package was reliable, however, as the car only had one DNF out of thirteen starts. The 2004 season was much less consistent for the team, both on and off the track. Fernández Racing
Fernández Racing was a Mexican motor racing team that competed in the American Le Mans Series, Champ Car, the IRL IndyCar Series, and the Rolex Sports Car Series. The team was co-founded by Adrian Fernández and Tom Anderson in 2001. Open wheel The team competed in the Champ Car ranks with Fernández and Shinji Nakano driving. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) is an auto racing team that has participated in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the IndyCar Series. Andretti Global is an American motorsports organization with teams competing in the IndyCar Series, Indy NXT, Formula E, and joint entries in IMSA and the Australian Supercars Championship.
