''Hollywood, City of Dreams'' (Spanish:''Hollywood, ciudad de ensueno'') is a 1931 American drama film directed by George Crone and starring José Bohr, Lia Torá and Donald Reed.Jarvinen p.16-17 It was a Spanish-language film made in the United States, as part of an effort to reach Spanish-speaking audiences around the world following the introduction of sound. Unlike some other Spanish-language films of the era, it was not a remake of an English film but an original story. A young immigrant hopes to make it big in Hollywood and meet his idol, a female film star. He goes through a number of minor jobs but eventually gets his break and begins a romance with his heroine. Nonetheless, the film ends on a downbeat note as he returns on a boat to his native country. Enrique Acosta
Enrique Acosta was a Mexican American movie actor. He appeared in multiple films from 1925 to 1947, such as "Don Q, Son of Zorro" (1925) and "A Message to Garcia" (1936). Early life Acosta emigrated with his family to Los Angeles, California, in the United States of America, from Mexico after 1910, to escape the violence created by the Mexican Revolution. His theater career began in Mexico, though there is not yet significant information. After he emigrated, Enrique Acosta, bilingual in English and Spanish, acted in many of Hal Roach's Spanish-language shorts in the early 20th century, as well as films where he spoke English. He lived with his three sons and wife, Josefa A Acosta, in Culver City near the Hal Roach studios. George Crone
George Crone (1894–1966), also known as George J. Crone, was an American director and editor, whose career spanned both the silent and sound film eras. He began his career cutting the silent film ''Let's Be Fashionable'' in 1920. Between that film and his final screen credit, editing '' Arruza'' (released in 1972), he edited over 40 films, and directed over a dozen more. ''Arruza'' was released 6 years after Crone's death. Crone had worked with director Budd Boetticher, on Boetticher's obsession, a docudrama regarding his friend Carlos Arruza, the famous bullfighter. Boetticher had used ten cameras to film 2 of Arruza's bullfights in January and February 1966, and Crone was tasked with editing the different fights together. Crone died shortly after completing the tasks, in June 1966. Earlier in his career, he had been the original editor on ''Citizen Kane'', before being replaced by Robert Wise. Lloyd Ingraham
Lloyd Chauncey Ingraham (November 30, 1874 – April 4, 1956) was an American film actor and director. Biography Born in Rochelle, Illinois, Ingraham appeared in more than 280 films between 1912 and 1950, as well as directing more than 100 films between 1913 and 1930. Films for which he is known include ''Scaramouche'' (1923), ''The Padrone's Ward'' (1914) and ''Rainbow Valley'' (1935). He performed in several films with John Wayne including ''Rainbow Valley'' (1935), ''Empty Saddles'' (1936), '' Westward Ho'' (1935), ''The Lonely Trail'' (1936) and '' Conflict'' (1936). Nancy Drexel (born Dorothy Kitchen, April 6, 1910 – November 19, 1989) was an American film actress of the late silent era, silent and early sound era. She was sometimes credited by her birth name in films. She appeared in 29 films, generally B film, B-film Westerns. Drexel was the daughter of George P. Kitchen, who was described in a newspaper article as "a pioneer of the film industry." Her professional debut came when she was 8 years old, performing in ''The Royal Vagabond'' comic opera.
