Hockey At The 2014 Commonwealth Games – Men's Tournament
The men's field hockey event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games was held at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre from 25 July to 3 August 2014. Australia defeated India in the final to take their fifth consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, whilst England defeated New Zealand on penalties in the bronze medal match. Competition format Two groups each of five teams were drawn. Pool A consisted of Scotland, Australia, India, South Africa and Wales; whilst pool B consisted of Canada, England, Malaysia, New Zealand and Trinidad and Tobago. The teams were required to play each other team in their group once in a group stage format. Three points were awarded for a win and one for a draw, with goal difference being necessary should the teams be tied on the same number of points. Trent Grant Mitton (born 26 November 1990) is an Australian field hockey player who plays for the WA Thundersticks and the Kookaburras. Mitton is a striker. Mitton first joined the Australian team as part of the 19-member Champions Trophy squad at the 2010 Men's Hockey Champions Trophy in Mönchengladbach, Germany. He is part of the Australian team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. His father is Grant Mitton who represented Australia at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and his grandfather is Don Mitton who did likewise in New Zealand in 1958. He played as a midfielder and forward for England and Great Britain and is the most capped British hockey player in history and captained his country for many years. Hugo Inglis (born 18 January 1991) is a New Zealand field hockey player who plays as a forward for the New Zealand national team. He played for the Southern Dogs in the New Zealand Hockey League and he played in Europe for SCHC, Braxgata and currently Rotterdam. He also represented the Uttar Pradesh Wizards in the Hockey India League. Club career Inglis started playing hockey when he was five and he joined his local hockey club the Southern Dogs. In 2012 he signed a two-year contract at SCHC in the Netherlands. Due to his commitments to the national team, he would miss the preparation for the second half of the season so in January 2013 his contract at SCHC was annulled and he returned to New Zealand. Mark Gleghorne (born 19 May 1985) is a field hockey player from Northern Ireland who has represented Ireland, England and Great Britain at international level. He represented Great Britain at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Gleghorne was a member of the England teams that won the bronze medals at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2017 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship.
