The Braunschweig University of Art (Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig, HBK) is the second largest fine arts college in Germany. History The history goes back to the “Zeichnen-Instithut” (Drawing Institute) founded by the Brunswick Business Association in 1841 and which was first led by Johannes Selenka. From that Drawing Institute, the state-approved urban “Handwerker-Kunstgewerbeschule” (Artisan Arts and Crafts School) developed via various stages, and shortly thereafter the “Meisterschule des Deutschen Handwerks” (Master School of German Craftsmanship) developed. The real precursor of the HBK was founded in 1952: the urban ''Werkkunstschule Braunschweig'' (School of applied art). Olav Christopher Jenssen
Olav Christopher Jenssen (born 2 April 1954 in Sortland Municipality, Norway) is a Norwegian artist. Jenssen is considered one of the most acclaimed contemporary Norwegian artists, with a significant international career. He has lived and worked in Berlin for years. From 1996 to 2003 he was professor of painting at the Hochschule Fine Arts in Hamburg, and since 2007, he is professor of painting at the Hochschule Fine Arts in Braunschweig. In 1992, he was selected to exhibit at the prestigious exhibition documenta in Kassel, Germany. He was festival exhibitor in Bergen in 2000, perhaps considered to be the most prestigious solo show in Norway for a Norwegian artist. Eku Wand
Eku Wand (born 25 October 1963 in Düsseldorf as Uwe Wand) is a German Designer and Multimedia director. Wand is a professor of media design and multimedia at the Braunschweig University of Art with a research focus on Interactive Storytelling. Career Eku Wand studied Visual Communication in the 1980s at the Hochschule der Künste, now the Berlin University of the Arts. After working as an art director for computer animation and video production at Cinepool in Berlin, he founded Pixelpark, now Digitas Pixelpark in Berlin, in 1991 together with Paulus Neef, where he was one of the managing directors and creative director. Melati Suryodarmo
Melati Suryodarmo (born 12 July 1969) is an Indonesian endurance art, durational performance artist. Her physically demanding performances make use of repetitive motions and often last for many hours, sometimes reaching "a level of factual absurdity". Suryodarmo has performed and exhibited throughout Europe and Asia as well as in North America. Born in Surakarta, she attended Padjadjaran University, graduating with a degree in international relations before moving to Germany. Rita Rohlfing
Rita Rohlfing (born 1964 in Bad Oeynhausen) is a German painter, photographer and installation artist. Biography Rita Rohlfing studied from 1985 to 1991 at the Braunschweig University of Art. In 1992 she was appointed "Master Student" (Meisterschüler) by ''Bernd Minnich'' and ''Roland Dörfler''. She also received the "Dragoco Scholarship for Young Artists" at the Rudolf-Jahns-Haus in Holzminden and was honoured with an exhibition of her panel paintings in 1992. Thomas Rentmeister
Thomas Rentmeister (born 4 March 1964) is a German artist. He currently lives in Berlin and teaches at the Braunschweig University of Art (Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig). Biography Rentmeister studied from 1987 to 1993 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf where he was taught by Günther Uecker and Alfonso Hüppi. In 1999 he became a lecturer at the Kunsthochschule Kassel.
