History Of The Romanian Language
The history of the Romanian language started in Roman provinces north of the Jireček Line in Classical antiquity. There are three main hypotheses around its exact territory: the autochthony thesis (it developed in left-Danube Dacia only), the discontinuation thesis (it developed in right-Danube provinces only), and the "as-well-as" thesis that supports the language development on both sides of the Danube. Between the 6th and 8th centuries AD, following the accumulated tendencies inherited from the Vulgar Latin, vernacular Latin and, to a much smaller degree, the influences from an Substrate in Romanian, unidentified substratum, and in the context of a lessened power of the Roman central authority, the language evolved into Common Romanian. Romanian Language
Romanian (obsolete spelling: Roumanian; , or , ) is the official and main language of Romania and Moldova. Romanian is part of the Eastern Romance languages, Eastern Romance sub-branch of Romance languages, a linguistic group that evolved from several dialects of Vulgar Latin which separated from the Italo-Western languages, Western Romance languages in the course of the period from the 5th to the 8th centuries. Dalmatian Language
Dalmatian or Dalmatic (, ) is a group of now-extinct Romance varieties that developed along the coast of Dalmatia. Over the centuries they were increasingly influenced, and then supplanted, by Croatian and Venetian. It has not been demonstrated that Dalmatian belonged to a larger branch of Romance or even that its varieties constituted a valid genetic grouping of their own. Varieties Ragusan This was spoken in Dubrovnik (). Various Ragusan words are known from local documents in Latin and Venetian. Dacian Language
Dacian () is an extinct language generally believed to be a member of the Indo-European languages, Indo-European language family that was spoken in the ancient region of Dacia. The Dacian language is poorly documented. Unlike Phrygian language, Phrygian, which is documented by c. 200 inscriptions, only one Dacian inscription is believed to have survived. The List of Dacian plant names, Dacian names for a number of medicinal plants and herbs may survive in ancient literary texts, including about 60 plant-names in Dioscorides. Illyrian Languages
The Illyrian language () was an Indo-European language or group of languages spoken by the Illyrians in Southeast Europe during antiquity. The language is unattested with the exception of personal names and placenames. Just enough information can be drawn from these to allow the conclusion that it belonged to the Indo-European language family. In ancient sources, the term " Illyrian" is applied to a wide range of tribes settling in a large area of southeastern Europe, including Albanoi, Ardiaei, Autariatae, Dardani, Delmatae, Dassareti, Enchelei, Labeatae, Pannonii, Parthini, Taulantii and others (see list of ancient tribes in Illyria). Classification Of Thracian
The linguistic classification of the ancient Thracian language has long been a matter of contention and uncertainty, and there are widely varying hypotheses regarding its position among other Paleo-Balkan languages. Grigore Brâncuș
Grigore Brâncuș (20 March 1929, Peștișani, Romania – 2 April 2022, Bucharest) was a Romanian linguist and philologist, Albanologist, member of the Romanian Academy. Activity Brâncuș completed his university studies at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Bucharest in 1953, the same University where he would continue his academic activity and became a university teacher at 21 years old, for nearly half a century (1950-1999). For 18 years he was the head of the Department of Romanian Language. Brâncuș completed his PhD in Historical Linguistics and Balkanology under the supervision of Alexandru Rosetti and was known for his research in the interlinguistic relations between Albanian and Romanian.
