History Of Australian Cricket From 1890–91 To 1900
This article describes the history of Australian cricket from the 1890–91 season until 1900. As in England, cricket in Australia from about 1890 until the First World War has been recalled as a ''Golden Age''. The 1890s saw the emergence of great Australian players like Joe Darling, Clem Hill, Monty Noble and above all Victor Trumper, the supreme stylist who epitomised the glitter of this era not only in Australia but in England also. Domestic cricket The highlight of the decade was the establishment of the famous Sheffield Shield to be contested as a national championship by Australian colonial sides from the 1892–93 season. The Shield was donated by Lord Sheffield during the 1891–92 tour by his England XI, captained by W G Grace. 1890-91 Australian Cricket Season
Year 189 ( CLXXXIX) was a common year starting on Wednesday of the Julian calendar. Harry Donnan
Henry Donnan (12 November 1864 – 13 August 1956) was an Australian cricketer who played in 5 Tests between 1892 and 1896. Donnan scored the first century in the Sheffield Shield when he made 120 for New South Wales against South Australia in the first Shield match in 1892–93. Donnan worked for the Colonial Sugar Refining Company for 42 years until he retired in 1923. David Frith
David Edward John Frith (born 16 March 1937) is an English cricket writer and historian. Cricinfo describes him as "an author, historian, and founding editor of '' Wisden Cricket Monthly''". Life and career David Frith was born in Gloucester Terrace in London, not far from Lord's, on 16 March 1937. The family resided in Rayners Lane, Harrow, whilst he attended Roxbourne School. In 1949, he emigrated with his family to Australia, arriving in Sydney aboard the '' RMS Orion'' on 25 February 1949. After leaving Canterbury Boys' High School on 15 February 1954 he started his first job as a copy-boy for ''The Daily Mirror'' but left after two months to join the Commonwealth Bank where he was posted to the Cronulla branch. He played his early cricket for the famous St George club and then Paddington before returning to England in 1964. New Zealand Cricket Team In Australia In 1898–99
The New Zealand cricket team toured Australia in February 1899, playing two first-class cricket, first-class matches against state teams and two other matches. It was New Zealand's first overseas tour. The team Alfred Holdship, who probably would have captained the team, George Burnes, Walter Pearce (New Zealand cricketer), Wally Pearce, Charles Richardson (cricketer, born 1864), Charles Richardson and Arnold Williams (cricketer), Arnold Williams were selected but were unable to make the trip. New Zealand Cricket Team
The New Zealand national cricket team represents New Zealand in men's international cricket. Nicknamed the Black Caps (), they played their first Test in 1930 against England in Christchurch, becoming the fifth country to play Test cricket. From 1930 New Zealand had to wait until 1956, more than 26 years, for its first Test victory, against the West Indies at Eden Park in Auckland. They played their first ODI in the 1972–73 season against Pakistan in Christchurch. New Zealand are the inaugural champions of ICC World Test Championship which they won in 2021 and they have also won ICC Champions Trophy in 2000. They have played in the ICC Cricket World Cup final twice in 2015 and 2019 but are yet to win one, although they are recognized as one of the best teams of the tournament. English Cricket Team In Australia In 1897–98
An England cricket team toured Australia in the 1897–98 season to play a five-match Test series against the Australia national cricket team. The team was captained by Andrew Stoddart and, except in the Test matches when it was called England, it was generally known as A. E. Stoddart's XI. The playing strength of the team was weakened by Stoddart acceding to a request from the Australians to bring “new blood”. As a result, established players including JT Brown, Albert Ward and Bobby Peel were not selected. Stoddart only played in the third and fourth Test matches, following the news before the first Test that his mother had died. Archie MacLaren captained England in the first, second and fifth Tests. England won the first Test comfortably by nine wickets after Ranjisinhji played one of the great Test innings. Adelaide Oval
The Adelaide Oval is a stadium in Adelaide in the state of South Australia. It is located in the Adelaide Parklands, parklands. The venue is predominantly used for cricket and Australian rules football, but has also played host to rugby league, rugby union, soccer, and tennis, as well as regularly being used to hold concerts. Established in 1871, the structures and grounds underwent significant redevelopment between 2012 and 2014. Ernie Jones (Australian Sportsman)
Ernest Jones (30 September 1869 – 23 November 1943) was an Australian sportsman, playing Test cricket and Australian rules football. Jones played 19 Tests from 1894 to 1902 and represented Port Adelaide, North Adelaide and South Adelaide Football Clubs. Nicknamed ''Jonah'', Jones was one of the best and fastest bowlers of his time, initially erratic but subsequently gaining control of line and length to good effect. Jones worked as a customs officer, and one of his claims to fame as a cricketer was that he was known as 'The man who bowled a ball through W. G. Grace's Beard' and was reputed to have broken Stanley Jackson's ribs. His action was controversial and complained about in both England (in 1896) and Australia.
