Hike Heiskell
Edgar Frank "Hike" Heiskell III (October 10, 1940 – November 20, 2016) was an American lawyer and politician. Heiskell was born in Morgantown, West Virginia and graduated from Morgantown High School. He received his bachelor's degree from West Virginia University in 1963 and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1966. Heiskell served in the United States Air Force. He then practiced law. In 1972, Heiskell won election as a Republican to serve as West Virginia Secretary of State, narrowly defeating Democratic nominee Thomas A. Winner. He served from 1973 until his resignation in March 1975. He served as chair of the West Virginia Republican Party from 1987 to 1990, though he later left the party, becoming an independent in 2006. West Virginia Republican Party
The West Virginia Republican Party is the affiliate of the United States Republican Party in West Virginia. Matthew Herridge is the party chair. It is currently the dominant party in the state, and is one of the strongest affiliates of the national Republican Party. It controls both of West Virginia's U.S. House seats, both of the U.S. Senate seats, the governorship, and has supermajorities in both houses of the state legislature. West Virginia Secretary Of State
The secretary of state of West Virginia is an elected office within the U.S. state of West Virginia state government. The secretary of state is responsible for overseeing the state's election process, including voter registration and election results reporting. The current secretary of state is Republican Kris Warner. Elections The Office of Secretary of State is a publicly elected statewide position with elections held every four years. Elections are held in November and officers assume their duties the following January. There are no term limits for the office. If the office of secretary of state becomes vacant, it is the duty of the governor to fill the position by appointment. The appointee serves until a new commissioner is elected.
