Henry Poole & Co. is a bespoke tailor located on Savile Row in London, United Kingdom. In the 1860s, it is widely-believed to have designed the first modern-style dinner jacket, according to specifications provided by the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII). Some call the company “the founding father of Savile Row”. Its headquarters is at 15 Savile Row. History The business first opened in Brunswick Square in 1806, originally specializing in military tailoring around the Battle of Waterloo. After the death of founder James Poole, it relocated to Savile Row in 1846. Henry Poole ran the business until his death in 1876, after which his cousin, Samuel Cundey, took over. The company has remained in the control of the Cundey family through five generations, with current chairman Simon Cundey having assumed the position after the passing of his father in August 2024. Henry Poole (died 1559)
Henry Poole (died 1559) was an English politician. He was the eldest son of Henry Poole of Kirk Langley and Chesterfield, Derbyshire and Ursula Twyford. He was a Knight of St John and served on Malta through much of the 1530s. On the dissolution of the order by Henry VIII, he served as a Justice of the Peace for Leicestershire from 1538 until his death. He was commissioner for musters in 1539 and 1546 and commissioner for relief in 1550. He was elected a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Leicestershire in April 1554. He was appointed High Sheriff of Warwickshire and Leicestershire for 1558-59 but died during the latter year. His term of office was completed by his brother-in-law Brian Cave. He was buried at Kirk Langley, where he was born: the church contains a memorial to himself and his wife. Henry Poole (died 1580)
Henry Poole (by 15261580) was an English politician. He was a Member of Parliament, Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Wootton Bassett (UK Parliament constituency), Wootton Bassett during October 1553. He was a younger son of Leonard Poole of Sapperton, Gloucestershire and his wife Catherine, daughter of Giles Brugge, 6th Baron Chandos, Sir Gyles Brydges of Coberley, Gloucestershire. By 1549 he was a Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, gentleman pensioner to Edward VI. In 1553 he supported Mary I of England, Queen Mary. He owed his seat in the 1553 parliament to his uncle John Brydges, 1st Baron Chandos, the patron of Wootton Bassett (UK Parliament constituency), Wotton Bassett. He married Margaret Nevill, daughter of George Nevill, 5th Baron Bergavenny and widow of John Cheyney (d. 1544), with whom he had six sons. Henry Poole (died 1616)
Sir Henry Poole (1541 – 31 August 1616) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons in 1593. Poole was the son of Giles Poole, Sir Giles Poole and his first wife Elizabeth Whittington. He was admitted at Inner Temple in 1562. From 1573 he was a Justice of the peace, JP for Gloucestershire and was an ecclesiastical commissioner in 1574. He was concerned about religious dissenters and in 1578 brought notice of a sect to the Privy Council and was directed to round them up. Before 1585 he acquired the manor of Pinbury. He was knighted in 1587 and was High Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1588. He inherited the family estates on the death of his father in 1589.
