Henry Francis Conyngham, Earl Of Mount Charles
Henry Joseph Conyngham, Earl of Mount Charles (6 April 1795 – 26 December 1824), was an Ulster Scots Tory politician. He was heir to the Marquessate of Conyngham but died before his father. Conyngham was the eldest son of Henry Conyngham, 1st Marquess Conyngham, and his wife, the banking heiress Elizabeth Denison. He was educated in 1813 at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a Tory Member of Parliament (MP) for Donegal from 1818 until his death at the age of 29 in Nice, France. He died unmarried and with no issue, and was buried in Nice. Ulster Scots People
The Ulster Scots people or Scots-Irish are an ethnic group descended largely from Lowland Scottish people, Scottish and Northern English people, English settlers who moved to the northern province of Ulster in Ireland mainly during the 17th century. There is an Ulster Scots dialect of the Scots language. Historically, there have been considerable population exchanges between Ireland and Scotland over the millennia. This group are found mostly in the province of Ulster; their ancestors were Protestant settlers who migrated from the Scottish Lowlands and Northern England during the Plantation of Ulster, which was a Plantation (settlement or colony), planned process of colonisation following the Tudor conquest of Ireland. Francis Nathaniel Conyngham, 2nd Marquess Conyngham, KP, GCH, PC (11 June 1797 – 17 July 1876), styled Lord Francis Conyngham between 1816 and 1824 and Earl of Mount Charles between 1824 and 1832, was an Anglo-Irish soldier, courtier, politician and absentee landlord. Background and education Born in Dublin, Conyngham was the second son of General Henry Conyngham, 1st Marquess Conyngham and Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph Denison, and the brother of Henry Conyngham, Earl of Mount Charles, and Albert Denison, 1st Baron Londesborough. His mother was previously the infamous last mistress of King George IV. He was educated at Eton. He became known as Lord Francis Conyngham in 1816 when his father was created Marquess Conyngham and gained the courtesy title of Earl of Mount Charles in 1824 on the early death of his unmarried elder brother. Marquessate Of Conyngham
Marquess Conyngham, of the County of Donegal, is a title in the Peerage of Ireland. The title was created in 1816 for Henry Conyngham, 1st Earl Conyngham. He was the great-nephew of another Henry Conyngham, 1st Earl Conyngham, a member of a family of Scottish descent which had settled during the Plantation of Ulster in County Donegal in Ireland in the early 17th century. The 'founder' of the dynasty in Ireland was The Very Rev. Dr. Alexander Cunningham, Dean of Raphoe. The earlier Henry was a member of both the Irish House of Commons and the British House of Commons and served as Vice-Admiral of Ulster and as Governor of the counties of Donegal and Londonderry.
