City Of Henrico (Virginia Company)
The City of Henrico (also known as Henrico) is one of the oldest counties in the Colony of Virginia. It was one of four incorporations established in the colony by its proprietor, the Virginia Company. The City of Henrico, which included the settlement of Henricus, was the furthest incorporation upstream on the James River. Henricus
The "Citie of Henricus"—also known as Henricopolis, Henrico Town or Henrico—was a settlement in Virginia founded by Sir Thomas Dale in 1611 as an alternative to the swampy and dangerous area around the original English settlement at Jamestown, Virginia. Named for Henry, Prince of Wales (1594–1612), the eldest son of King James I, Henricus is located on a former curl of the James River about 12 miles southeast of the modern city of Richmond, Virginia or 15 miles from the fall line of the James River. Today, the settlement is interpreted via Henricus Historical Park, a living history museum. It is surrounded by the Dutch Gap Conservation Area, an 810 acre mixture of woodlands and wetlands operated by Chesterfield County, Virginia. The eight Shires of Virginia were formed in 1634 in the Virginia Colony. These shires were based on a form of local government used in England at the time, and were redesignated as counties a few years later. Henrico Botes (born 24 December 1979) is a former Namibian football striker. He played for Platinum Stars, Bidvest Wits and University of Pretoria F.C. in the South African Premier Soccer League and Namibia national team. Henrico Drost (born 21 January 1987) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as centre-back. Club career Heerenveen, RKC and NAC Drost started his senior career in 2005 with Heerenveen, where he was usually a bencher. Heerenveen loaned him out to Excelsior, De Graafschap and VVV-Venlo. In the summer of 2010 Drost signed a two-year contract with RKC Waalwijk after leaving Heerenveen on a free transfer. In the summer of 2013, Drost signed with NAC Breda for two seasons, to leave them for Excelsior on a free in 2015. Drost returned to RKC in the Eerste Divisie in the summer of 2017. USS ''Henrico'' (APA-45) was a that served with the United States Navy in World War II, and subsequently in the Korean War, Cold War and Vietnam War. It is named after Henrico County, Virginia. The ship was laid down as ''SS Sea Darter'', a Type C3-S-A2 hull, under a Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 393) by Ingalls Shipbuilding Co., Pascagoula, Mississippi. Assigned to the Navy as Naval Transport (AP-90), she was reclassified as Attack Transport (APA-45) on 1 February 1943. The ship was launched on 31 March 1943, sponsored by Mrs. W. D. Pelan, acquired by the Navy on 23 June 1943, and commissioned next day for transfer to Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, Hoboken, New Jersey. Decommissioned on 8 July 1943, ''Henrico'' then fitted out, and recommissioned on 26 November 1943. The ship makes an appearance in the 1952 film My Son John. Henrico High School is a public high school located in Henrico County, Virginia and operated by the Henrico County Public Schools. It has two specialty centers — the International Baccalaureate (IB) IB Middle Years Programme, Middle Years/IB Diploma Programme, Diploma Program and the Center for the Arts program (CFA). It is one of the oldest schools in Henrico County, and it has a highly diverse student population. In a June 8, 2009 online exclusive, Newsweek, ''Newsweek'' Magazine ranked Henrico High School number 928 in its 1,500 top US high schools. Henrico Theatre
The Henrico Theatre is an historic theater building located in Henrico County, Virginia. The theater was built in 1938, and was constructed in the Art Deco style using poured concrete (a new technology at the time of construction) and brick. The building has three bays, of which the centermost is recessed. That central bay features the theater's name in large stylized letters, the building's original marquee, and a clock designed to echo the shape of the building and created by the International Business Machine Corporation (later IBM). The auditorium initially sat 782; its capacity was reduced to 400 after a renovation. History The theater opened on April 25, 1938, with a showing of " Thin Ice", starring Sonja Henie. Henricho Bruintjies (born 16 July 1993) is a South African sprinter. He broke the 10-second barrier with a run of 9.97 seconds in 2015. He has represented his country at the Summer Olympics, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
