Hawaii House Of Representatives
The Hawaii House of Representatives () is the lower house of the Hawaii State Legislature. Pursuant to Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution of Hawaii, amended during the 1978 Hawaii State Constitutional Convention, 1978 constitutional convention, the House of Representatives consists of 51 members, each elected in a single member district. It is led by the Speaker (politics), Speaker of the House elected from the membership of the House, with majority and minority leaders elected from their party's respective caucuses. The current Speaker of the House is Nadine Nakamura. Legislators are elected to two-year terms and are not subject to term limits in the United States, term limits. As in many state legislatures in the United States, the Hawaiʻi House of Representatives is a part-time body and legislators often have active careers outside government. The 2024 Hawaii House of Representatives election was held on November 5, 2024, as part of the 2024 United States elections. All 51 seats in the Hawaii House of Representatives will be elected. Nadine Nakamura
Nadine Kuniko Nakamura (née Maeda, born December 1, 1961) is an American politician serving as a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives from District 15, encompassing east and north Kaua`i, from Wailua to Haena. She won the seat after incumbent Democrat Derek Kawakami decided to run for a seat in the Kauai County Council. Nakamura won re-election in 2020 against Republican candidate Steve Monas, 76.2% to 23.8%. She won re-election in 2022 against Republican candidate Greg Bentley, 67.9% to 24%. In 2024, she became Speaker of the Hawaii House of Representatives, becoming the first woman to hold the role. David Augustine Alcos III (born 1967 or 1968) is an American politician from the Hawaii Republican Party. He was first elected in 2022 to the Hawaii State House of Representatives from District 41. Early life and education Alcos was born and raised in Ewa Beach with two sisters by parents David Jr. and Trudy. He attended Ewa Elementary and Ilima Intermediate, and graduated from James Campbell High School in 1987.
